James Jospeh Brown Jr, born May 3, 1933, commonly referred to as "The Godfather of Soul" and recognized as one of the most influential figures in 20th-century popular music passed away today early this morning.
At 73 years old Brown passed away at Atlanta's Emory Crawford Long Hospital. Brown's agent, Frank Copsidas, made a statement: "It appears what happened is that he did die of a heart attack as a result of his pneumonia."
Brown has been known buy Various names throughout his lustrous carrier including but definitely not limited to "the Godfather of Soul," "The Hardest Working Man in Show Business," "Soul Brother Number One" and "Mr. Dynamite".
Chuck D of Public Enemy has been on recording saying that, "James presented obviously the best grooves. To this day, there has been no one near as funky. No one's coming even close."
Brown has been a major influence on much of the music we listen to today this includes dance, disco, and our favorite hip-hop/rap.
"Disco is James Brown, hip-hop is James Brown, rap is James Brown; you know what I'm saying? You hear all the rappers, 90 percent of their music is me," Brown told the Associated Press in 2003.
Our condolences go out to the friend and family left behind and the music community at large for losing one of its greatest members.
James Brown RIP (May 3, 1933 – Dec 25, 2006).
