Saigon and Mobb Deep Brawl During Music Showcase in New York City

Pandemonium broke out during a music showcase at club SOB’s in New York City last night (September 19) after an exchange of words between Saigon and Prodigy of Mobb Deep turned physical.

Although details are sketchy, a video posted on YouTube this morning clearly shows Saigon and his crew arguing onstage with Mobb Deep and their entourage. Seconds later, a scuffle ensues and Saigon is seen punching Prodigy twice in the face as both crews jump into the mix. Saigitty is later seen running out of the venue with his crew in tow.

In an early morning blog posting on his MySpace page, Saigon explains that the altercation stemmed from disparaging comments Prodigy made about him during an interview earlier this year.

When Prodigy was asked what he thought of up and coming MCs like Saigon he replied, “I don’t like him [Saigon]. I don’t like nobody really. I’m biased. I only like Mobb Deep shit. Everybody else could suck my dick.”

In the blog post, Sai also notes that the reason he ran out of SOB’s after the confrontation was because he felt he lost the upper hand and him and his crew were clearly outnumbered. “I had already rocked Prodigy, it was time to dip up outta there,” Sai wrote. “Shout out to Big Chris for the human shield technique, he said, ‘You got em, lets go,’ and we went.”

Michael Jackson Plots Comeback & Possible Tour With Janet

Michael Jackson can't leave the game alone. The King of Pop is reportedly plotting his return to music with a new album and a tour that may include his starlet sister, Janet.

In an interview with Jay-Z producer Syience, as previously confirmed that Janet Jackson is at work on her next project, and Michael was considering doing another album.

Now, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, Jackson has been taking meetings with big names in the music industry regarding his plans for a new album and promotional tour that will be ready by the end of next year or early 2009.

"This is something Michael is carefully planning," a source close to Jackson told the Sun-Times. "I think the album is going to be amazing. From what I've heard, it will be as big as Thriller -- and yet will take his music in a new direction to appeal to new, younger fans -- but will still have those Michael touches his traditional fans love."

Fans can reportedly expect a bit of a family reunion on this project, as collaborations with Janet and some of the Jackson brothers are part of Michaels current plans.

"Can you imagine what a sensation it would be if Michael and Janet toured together? That is something that's being discussed," Jackson's associate added.

Keith Murray Robbed In South Africa

Rapper Keith Murray, who is currently in South Africa working on his next album with local artists, was robbed on Tuesday (September 18) and is offering a reward the returned of the stolen goods.

According to local paper Pretoria News, the rapper lost "the last 12 years of his work" stored on the Apple Mac and was now desperate to get it back.

The paper reports that two armed men stormed into the Cube recording studios in Parkview, South Africa at around 10 p.m., holding up Murray and several other individuals with him.

Two men reportedly took four laptops, cellphones and cash.

Lance Stehr, CEO of Ghetto Ruff, a local record label, said that two other accomplices waited outside while the robbery went down.

"When the guys left they even had the cheek to shout 'Hey Fassie boy, continue making hits'," Stehr told the paper.

Murray was in South Africa recording a track using Brenda Fassie's "Weekend Special," with her son, Bongani Fassie, as the producer.

Papoose Released From JIVE Records

DJ Kay Slay has announced that Papoose has been released from JIVE Records. A year after signing a deal with a $1.5 million advance, Papoose was given his release papers.

“It was like a fucking year of hell,” DJ Kay Slay said. “They meant well, they believed in the project. Unfortunately we almost became victims of A&R hell. You can not put a 60-something year-old white man on a 20-something year-old black kid’s project from Brooklyn and think it’s going to pop. We wound up with records that we didn’t want to come out.”

“We’re popping champagne,” Kay Slay continued. “We got our release from Jive Records and we’re just moving on.”

DJ Kay Slay did not specify the next move for Papoose now that he is a free agent.

“We have our wings,” Kay Slay continued “We have our shackles off.”

Lil' Wayne Faces Another Million Dollar Lawsuit For Concert Melee
Another Morgan State University student is suing Lil' Wayne after suffering injuries during the pandemonium that ensued when the rapper threw money into the crowd of students at a homecoming concert.

According to the Maryland Daily Record, Carlisa Dixon has filed a lawsuit in Baltimore City Circuit Court against Lil' Wayne (whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter) claiming she was "impaled" by a metal pole as the crowd pushed forward in a panic to grab the falling cash at a concert last fall.

In her lawsuit, Dixon, who was a 20-year-old junior at the time of the incident, says the crowd forced her into the "bicycle type metal barricade" separating the performers from the audience. Dixon's left thigh was punctured by a fence support, requiring surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and resulting in "the embarrassment of scarring and disfigurement," the suit states.

As previously reported, last month fellow Morgan State student Tyrique Layne also filed a $1 million suit against Wayne as well as Universal Records Inc., Cash Money Records Inc. and his touring company, Young Money Touring. In her suit, Layne alleges she was trampled at the homecoming concert and continues to suffer from headaches, memory loss and difficulty concentrating as a result of her injuries.

Dixon is also seeking $1 million from MorganState, claiming the university was negligent in managing Hill Field House concert and reacting to the incident last October.

A spokesman for Morgan State, Clinton R. Coleman declined to comment on the suit, citing school policy. Coleman said the university considered pressing criminal charges against Lil' Wayne but decided not to pursue the matter.

"He has not been banned from the campus, but [the incident] is certainly something that would be taken into account if and when someone else wanted to ask him back," Coleman told the Daily Record.

Too $hort To Release New Up All Nite Crew Album

Too Short is set to release his team The Up All Nite Crew's new digital release Set Up Shop on October 16, 2007. A follow up to 2006’s Gangsters & Strippers compilation, Set Up Shop will introduce the world to artists that $hort feels has what it takes to have long careers of their own. The difference here is that unlike its predecessor, Set Up Shop features artists who are self-made, only needing the proper push to get noticed.

Being that Set Up Shop was recorded in $hort’s second home, Atlanta, it was only right that he showcased artists like Lil Red and Young Bay who hail from the Southern Rap capital. Lil Red, signed to Up All Nite through the group Murda Mob is the lone female rapper on the compilation, but her song “You Know What It Iz,” lets it be know that she can hang with the fellas. 21-year old Young Bay, formerly known as Baby D from $hort’s Dangerous Crew days, comes in as a baby-faced 10-year veteran and it shows on his track, “Ride With Ya Boy,”and midwest rappers Ice Mizzle and Lay It Down

Too Short hit the music scene in the early 80's with his unique style of rap, Too Short was instrumental in exposing the raw sounds of West Coast rap with songs that set the standard for Hip-Hop to the masses.

"The whole object of SET UP SHOP is me getting back to my roots," says $hort. "I live and die by the funk but I also roll with the trends. At the end of the day, I'm a music man and a music fan."
