"Say What you Say, But watch what you say when you saying it"
Ethan Brown posted this on his blog yesterday, and Eskay Reposted it:

“Somebody called Cam’s probation officer and told him that Cam had put a hit out on 50 Cent. Cam was then told to come down and talk to the probation officer–or face arrest. When Cam arrived to speak with probation officer, he was told that they had seen the ‘Cuurtis’ video as well as 50’s video about Cam. Cam was also asked about Supreme: ‘How do you know Supreme?’ Cam said that he did not know Supreme but that Supreme is a stand-up guy and 50 should not have been laughing at him on Hot 97. At the end of the interview, Cam stressed that the Diplomats ain’t got no beef with G-Unit. This is just music.”

Foxy Brown Arrested In South Florida Over Hair Glue, Spitting, Incident

Rapper Foxy Brown was arrested and charged with battery in Pembroke Pines, South Florida yesterday (Feb. 15), after a disturbance broke out in a beauty supply store.
According to police, the Brooklyn bred rapper became involved in a disturbance at the Queen Beauty Supply Store last night.

Police said that Brown was sampling beauty products in a bathroom of the shop, when a store employee told her it was closing time.

According to reports, Brown became irate and threw hair glue at the employee, a man named Hayssamn Ghoneim.

Ghoneim called 911 during the fracas, when Brown allegedly spit on him.

When an officer responded to the 911 call and found Brown still in the shopping plaza, he attempted to bring her back to the store to address the issue, but Brown allegedly refused.
According to the police report, when the officer attempted physically escort back to the store Brown by placing his hand on her arm, she allegedly swatted his hand away and resisted.
The officer said Brown resisted so much, he had to "use a takedown maneuver to gain control" of the rapper.

Brown, born Inga Marchand, was charged with battery and obstruction of justice.
She is currently being held on $1,500 bond at the Sheriff's North Jail in Pompano Beach.
In Oct. 2006, Brown was sentenced to three years probation and
anger management classes for assaulting two nail-salon stylists, after a dispute broke out over a $20 manicure/pedicure treatment.

In Jan. of 2007, Brown told the press that her anger management and probation was making her "grow up."

"I have matured a lot since I started the anger management," Brown said.

The screenwriter who penned the Leonardo DiCaprio/Tom Hanks film “Catch Me If You Can” is hard at work on a new film about the lip-synching debacle that is Milli Vanilli.

Jeff Nathanson has agreed to write and direct the project for Universal Pictures after receiving the blessing of surviving group member Fabrice Morvan and cooperation from the estate of the late Rob Pilatus, who died of a drug overdose in 1998.

Germans Rob and Fab lost their best new artist Grammy in 1990 when it was discovered that they had never sung on their records.

"I've always been fascinated by the notion of fakes and frauds, and in this case, you had guys who pulled off the ultimate con, selling 30 million singles and 11 million albums and then becoming the biggest laughing-stocks of pop entertainment," Nathanson told Daily Variety.

Kanye West, Nas, KRS-One Record Track For Nike's Air Force 1

Kanye West, Nas and KRS-One have banded together to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of Nike's Air Force 1 (AF1) sneaker.

The Rick Rubin produced track, "Better Than I've Ever Been," was recorded to pay homage to the perseverance of the AF1 and the community that has championed it.

Twenty-five years ago Nike released the Air Force 1 to satisfy the demands of the most uncompromising and forceful players in the game of basketball. In 1982, the Air Force 1 became the first basketball shoe to feature Nike Air technology. The comfort and protective qualities of the AF1 changed the game forever and created a platform that launched Nike's long-running legacy in performance basketball.

Embraced and revered by the basketball community, the Air Force 1's impact was felt way beyond its hard court roots. The shoe was also embraced by the urban culture, which was quickly becoming as much of a staple off the court as it was on. The urban street culture that gave birth to this music scene is the same culture that has supported the Air Force 1 from its inception. In 2006, Nike commemorated the Air Force 1's 25th anniversary.

In addition to the commemorative track, a remix by DJ Premier and featuring the addition of Rakim, titled "Classic (Better Than I've Ever Been DJ Premier Remix)," has been created. The two tracks will be sold individually through iTunes, with all NIKE and artist proceeds from the sale of the track going to the Nike Youth Sport for Change Fund to support youth programs that use sport as a catalyst for change. The fund will be administered by Charities Aid Foundation America. For more information, visit

Big L R.I.P.

Today marks the eighth year that Harlem's underground great Big L was shot to death just blocks from his home.
Born and raised in Harlem's uptown sector, what he called the "Danger Zone," at 139th Street and Lenox Avenue; Coleman chose rap as a way of getting away from the ghetto. His first appearance on a song came in 1992 on Lord Finesse's "Yes You May (Remix)."

In 1993 he signed with Columbia Records and released one vinyl 12", "Devil's Son." This song was quickly banned from radio, due to lyrics which stations dubbed too violent or vulgar, such as "I pistol whip the priest every Sunday." In 1995, still with Columbia, he released his debut album Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous. The album was hardly promoted and commercially not very popular, but was praised by The Source, a respected rap music publication, which gave it 4 mics out of 5. The album featured now-popular rappers such as Jay-Z and Cam'ron, but after its lack of success, he was dropped from the label.

Jay-Z has said that Big L was set to sign with Roc-A-Fella label, but died the week before. They had a mutual respect dating back to a dual freestyle session on the radio and Jay-Z's appearance on Big L's first album.

Here are Some Big L Video's So ya'll can remember how great this dude was.

Papoose Talks New Album

East coast mixtape favorite Papoose is gearing up to release his debut album Nacirema Dream on Jive in April, the Bed-Stuy emcee sat down with Prefix Mag to discuss the album, mixtapes, and more. Here are some of the highlights:

On the
DJ Drama drama:
"I feel like eventually they want to make it seem like everything we do is a crime.
Hip-hop music and culture is from the streets; it belongs to the streets. Nobody should try to violate that or try to take it away from the streets. Period. This is our culture. Shout out to DJ Drama and his whole camp, man. I hope he come up out of that situation."

On 50 Shots for Sean Bell:
"Being from New York, you see this shit go on all the time. There are a lot of incidents that go unpublicized. This goes on every day. If the police ain't beatin' someone up, they shootin' 'em. It won't be the first; it won't be the last, man."

On dumbing down his lyrics for the album:
music is good music, whether you commercialize it or you make it what some consider complicated. If it's hot, it's hot; if it's not, it's not. I represent real lyricism and real talent. That's what this is about. People that make you try to think that it's about something else; that's because they lack talent, that's all. They just tryin' to cover up the fact that they don't have pure talent. People be tryin' to make you think that hip-hop is about everything else except for talent. It's about how many people you shot, how much money you got. That's not the foundation of the game. This is something that certain individuals were born to do-same as basketball, baseball, or football."

On the status of the LP:
"We're aiming for early '07. On the production side, we got DJ Premier, DR Period, Focus, Pharrell,
Kayne West, the list goes on. And on the feature side, we got Jadakiss. But I ain't gonna put everything out there. It ain't final 'til it's vinyl. But I'm still working, even though I have enough material for three albums."

According to the NY Post, Irv Gotti, former head of Murder Inc. Records, may have written a check his courage couldn’t cash.

“Spies” reported witnessing a stare-down match between he and Universal distribution mate 50 Cent at the company’s chairman Doug Morris' Grammy viewing party at the Palm restaurant in L.A., across the street from the Staples Center. "It was like the Cold War," the spy said.

Witnesses claim Gotti paid quick respects to Morris and beat a hasty retreat after the incident, dubbing 50 Cent the ‘stare-down winner.’

The feud stems from comments Gotti allegedly made about “Fitty” and other execs at Universal shortly after signing a deal with the distributor and after being acquitted of tax evasion in December.

“Irv started bad-mouthing 50 Cent, saying he was going to outsell him and that 50 was nothing. Irv even went so far as to say he was going to be the next president of Universal. It all got back to 50 - and other executives at Universal - and no one is happy with him right now. Especially 50," an industry insider reports,

Gotti's lawyer, Jerry Lefcourt, told Page Six, "He has never said anything about 50 - it's just somebody bringing up old stuff.”

March 10, 2007 from 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM at the

5616 Memorial Drive,
Stone Mountain, GA 30083.

The film is a compelling story of Kazi, a former homeless teenager who inspires a group of New York teens to transform their life stories into powerful works of art, using hip hop as a vehicle for self-development and personal discovery. In contrast to all the negative attention focused on hip hop, it is a story of hope, healing and the realization of dreams. Additionally, the screening will show other previously released, unreleased films, and documentaries by today's most cutting edge and stimulating new film makers.

To have a film considered for the screening amongst this impressive rooster of talent, film students either individually or in a group, are invited to submit their work for the "Selective Choice" film section. Participants are required to send in a completed film, 90 minutes or less, with a PG-13 rating or lower (ie. PG). There is a $35.00 non-refundable processing fee. Bill O'Reilly Blame Hip Hop Again

After winning one of this two Grammy nods last week, Ludacris took the opportunity to shout out to of his well known detractors; Oprah and Bill O'Reilly. Now, O'Reilly, ever the uninformed, short-sighted, racist, blames Hip Hop for "destroying music." Check the vid:

Whitney Houston wants you to know that she and Bobby are NOT getting back together.
The rumors and speculation started because the couple was seen dining together over the weekend in Los Angeles.

Whit was in town to perform at Clive Davis' pre-Grammy Awards party on Saturday, but skipped the actual ceremony to enjoy a quiet dinner with Brown.

Houston's representative, Nancy Seltzer, gave People magazine the straight scoop.

"It was a one-night dinner between divorcing parents for the sake of their daughter," Seltzer said. "They are not reuniting."

Houston and Brown, their 13-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, her friend and the friend's mother, were all present at the dinner at Dan Tana's restaurant in West Hollywood.

Louis Vuitton Mom Releases Memoir, "Raising Kanye"

Dr. Donda West, mother and manager of hip-hop superstar Kanye West is set to release a book this spring entitled Raising Kanye

A source close to Kanye has revealed that Dr. West is finishing up a book to be released in the coming months. According to AOL Black Voices, the book will be co-written by best selling author Karen Hunter and is scheduled to hit shelves on May 15 on Simon and Shuster's Pocket Books imprint.

Barry Hankerson and his Blackground Records LLC has announced that a settlement has been reached with Toni Braxton in her lawsuit against them

According to the statement released by a rep for Blackground, the settlement "requires Braxton to return to Blackground Records a $375,000 advance she received on December 27, 2006, and further provides for compensating Blackground Records by paying to it a percentage of the net sales of Braxton's next album."

Blackground's statement also details its side of the dispute that triggered Braxton's lawsuit.
"Blackground Records released Toni Braxton from her recording contract on January 10 of this year," the release states. "Braxton immediately retaliated with a lawsuit filed in federal court. Braxton dismissed the federal lawsuit in response to an order of the Court advising her of its intention to dismiss the case unless she provided further justification of its basis. Braxton filed another lawsuit in New York State the same day, which attorneys for Blackground Records deemed to be absolutely devoid of any merit.

"When Barry Hankerson began working with Toni Braxton in 1997, he loaned her a substantial amount of money to assist her in dealing with a much publicized bankruptcy. As her manager, he negotiated a contract on her behalf with Arista Records that paid her an advance of $23,000,000. However, after only two albums, Arista released her from her contract. At Braxton's behest, Hankerson signed Braxton to Blackground Records, where she released only one of the three albums she committed to."

As expected the Braxton camp issued a statement that gives their perspective of the settlement.

"This settlement allows Ms. Braxton immediately to start new projects of her choice," said Peter L. Haviland, her trial lawyer. "She wanted to end her relationship with Blackground and Barry Hankerson, and she has. Money has never been what motivates her. Integrity -- artistic and personal -- does."

"My freedom from Barry Hankerson is priceless, and means everything to me," said Braxton.

"The King of R&Bay" Gears Up For His Debut Album

J. Valentine, Bay Area's new best kept secret, is ready to unleash his signature "R&Bay" sounds with the summer release of his debut album, Conversation Piece on J Records. Having already established himself as a veteran songwriter, the San Francisco native, who is credited for more than a dozen songs including Tyrese's "I like The Girls," N'Sync's "Celebrity" and Mario's "How Could You," can now add R&B singer to his impressive long list of accomplishments.

With a voice that is often described as having the smoothness of Babyface and R. Kelly, J. Valentine's songs are a hybrid of jams that flow rhythmically to an upbeat tempo - uniquely characteristic of the hyphy culture of his hometown. "Go Dumb," his take on T-Pain's "I'm Sprung," dominated local radio stations in the Bay Area and peaked at #2 on KMEL.

The "King of R&Bay" hits a more seductive note and shows off his sexy side in his new single, "She Worth The Trouble," about a playa that unintentionally falls in love with a special lady. The single will impact radio on February 26th.

J. Valentine's unique R&B sounds capture the spirit of the hyphy craze. Incorporating the bass heavy hip hop sounds with the rich, nuanced flow of R&B, J. Valentine's innovative approach is unlike any other. Staying true to his hometown roots, Conversation Piece, is a rowdy, party mix that features collaborations with the Godfathers of the hyphy movement - Keak da Sneak on "Keep It Goin'" and E-40 who shakes it up on, "Church Girl." Tight production by Scott Storch, Cool & Dre, the Underdogs and Valentine's own production company's The City BoyZ hold it all together.

The roster not only includes household names such as cover subject Will Smith, who together with partner James Lassiter produced the recent Oscar-nominated smash “The Pursuit of Happyness,” but also African American corporate executives, agents, lawyers, and entrepreneurs who broker some of the industry's biggest deals.
Also gracing the top 10 this year are Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Tyler Perry, Denzel Washington, Eddie Murphy and Tyra Banks.

To identify the Top 50 Hollywood Power Brokers, BE News Editor Nicole M. Richardson and an editorial team contacted industry insiders, movie studios, and television networks, and reviewed box office sales and television ratings reports.

In addition, BE consulted national organizations, including the Screen Actors Guild, the Film Life and HBO American Black Film Festival, the Black Filmmakers Association, the Black Filmmakers Forum, the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association, and the NAACP, which hosts the annually televised Image Awards honoring the best African American actors, movies, and television programs.

The complete list of 50 appears in the March issue of Black Enterprise, which hits newsstands on Feb. 21. Until then, here are the top 10:

No. 1: Oprah Winfrey
No. 2: Richard D. Parsons, Chairman & CEO, Time Warner Inc.
No. 3: Will Smith, Actor-Producer
No. 4: Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Chairman & CEO, Johnson Development Corp. and Magic Johnson Enterprises
No. 5: Robert L. Johnson, Founder, Our Stories Films
No. 6: Tyler Perry, President & CEO, The Tyler Perry Co.
No. 7: Douglas V. Holloway, President, Cable Investments, NBC Universal Cable No. 8: Denzel Washington, Actor-Director-Producer
No. 9: Eddie Murphy, Actor-Producer

VH1, BET to share "Wifey" hip-hop drama pilot

"Wifey" carries obvious risks, not the least of which is that viewers could be confused by the hybrid approach, particularly if the networks mount separate marketing campaigns. Creatively, there could be too many cooks in the kitchen. And even in success, there is always potential for a partner to bail -- and just imagine how complicated the acceptance speech could get if "Wifey" wins any awards.

"This is absolutely an experiment, a gamble," said Michael Hirschorn, executive vp original programming and production at VH1. "These kind of seemingly counterintuitive leaps are the kind of leaps linear networks need to make these days."

In another unusual twist, the pilot will be shot by the president of entertainment at BET, Reginald Hudlin, who was known primarily as a director for both film ("House Party") and TV ("Everybody Hates Chris") before joining the channel more than two years ago.

"It was a hugely important priority for us because I like scripted shows and there was a huge audience demand for scripted programming on the network," Hudlin said.

While the channels would synchronize premiere airdates of "Wifey," they still would be free to repeat episodes independent of each other's schedules.

Both channels have dabbled in shared programming ventures with other partners before but never to the point of simultaneous airings. In 2003, BET and Oxygen co-financed production on an animated series, "Hey Monie," but its runs were separated by several months. Last year, VH1 and Sundance Channel shared a four-part documentary, "The Drug Years," but the latter channel aired the program four days after VH1's premiere.

The BET-VH1 collaboration also marks the first between an MTV Networks asset and BET, which largely has operated as a separate fiefdom despite their common corporate parentage. Since being acquired by Viacom for $3 billion in 2001, what few ties BET has struck outside the company have been with CBS News and Showtime Networks, which have since split off with CBS Corp.

For BET, "Wifey" will represent its first attempt at an original scripted series. To date, all its original efforts have been reality-based, including "College Hill," and all scripted programming has come from syndication, like the recent addition of HBO's "The Wire." At VH1, the Tori Spelling vehicle "So Notorious" failed to get traction last year and was canceled after one season.

"Right now, we're actually going through a big war about what the name of the album's gonna be. Because I want this album to have a regal name. PBS To Broadcast "Beyond Beats & Rhymes" Special

Filmmaker Byron Hurt Takes In-Depth Look at Manhood, Sexism and Homophobia in Rap Music and Hip-Hop Culture; Program Features Interviews With Mos Def, Chuck D, Busta Rhymes and Russell Simmons.

"Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes" is a personal and heartfelt documentary that goes beyond the bling to explore gender roles in hip-hop and rap music through the lens of filmmaker Byron Hurt, a former college quarterback-turned-activist. In this "loving critique" from a self-proclaimed "hip-hop head," Hurt tackles issues of masculinity, sexism, violence and homophobia in today's hip-hop culture by talking with rappers, moguls and fans. The film, which premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, airs on the Emmy Award-winning INDEPENDENT LENS, hosted by Terrence Howard, on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET on PBS.

"Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes" features revealing interviews with rappers, including Mos Def, Fat Joe, Chuck D, Jadakiss and Busta Rhymes, and hip-hop moguls Russell Simmons and Chris Lighty, along with commentary from Michael Eric Dyson, Beverly Guy-Sheftall, Kevin Powell and Sarah Jones and interviews with young women at Spelman College, a historically black college and one of the nation's leading liberal arts institutions. "Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes" also reveals the complex intersection of culture, commerce and gender through on-the-street interviews with aspiring rappers and fans at hip-hop events throughout the country.

"In the past 20 years, hip-hop has become a critically acclaimed, billion-dollar industry," says Byron Hurt. "How do black men feel about the representations of manhood in hip-hop? How do black women and men feel about the pervasive images of scantily clad and sexually objectified women in rap music and videos? What do today's rap lyrics tell us about the collective consciousness of black men and women from the hip-hop generation? What does homoeroticism in hip-hop media look like? These are the types of questions I set out to explore in this film and to provide thoughtful dialogue from intelligent, divergent voices of rap artists, industry executives, rap fans and social critics from inside and outside the hip-hop generation.

"The result is an important, engaging, inside look at one of the most influential art forms of our time. "Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes" is also being used in a large-scale national outreach campaign ( of screenings and discussions, featuring a wide variety of national partners. (Press Release)
