The newness of life

In order to learn something new you must first accept that you do not know it. To fully understand another person, you must let go of your desire to make blind assumptions and judgments about that person.

Turn down the volume and intensity of your own chattering thoughts, and you can hear the music of life. Stop expecting to see what you've always seen before, and new and wondrous beauty will appear in front of your eyes.

When you continue to perform a task the exact same way you've always done it, your effectiveness cannot improve very much. Be open to new ideas and techniques, and you can vastly accelerate your performance.

If you cynically think you've experienced it all, you'll close yourself off from much of life's richness. If you consider yourself smarter than everyone else, you'll be supporting and advancing your own growing ignorance.

Open your mind and your heart to the newness of life that comes with each moment. There is always more to learn, more to experience, more to appreciate and enjoy, no matter how much you've already done.

With each dawning day, a whole new world of possibilities is born. Allow yourself to know and acknowledge their newness, and bring the best of those possibilities to life.

IHH Daily Update 11*9*07

The New York Daily News is reporting that rappers Jim Jones and Juelz Santana showed up and showed out at Chris Brown's "Exclusive" album release party at New York's Tenjune on Tuesday night.

According to columnists Rush & Malloy, the rap stars showed up just after the fire marshal said the venue had reached capacity. When security refused to let them inside, Jones reportedly took it personally and got loud.

"You don't disrespect me, n**ga!" he reportedly yelled as he knocked down the security barricade.

"Santana and the entourage then bowled over the three bouncers at the door. Twelve more guys followed and a brawl ensued as they tried to pry open the door of the popular nightspot," the paper reported. "Reinforcements from inside Tenjune swarmed out and shoved the aggressors back onto the street."

Amy Winehouse's Home Raided

Police have raided the London home of pop singer Amy Winehouse, though the songstress and husband Blake Fielder-Civil were not home at the time.

According to global news network AFP, the raid occurred following the arrest of four men Thursday (November 8) for suspicion of "perverting the course of justice" in relation to a case involving Fielder-Civil.

The recently wedded Fielder-Civil was arrested in East London with Winehouse present.

Winehouse, 24, is best known for her hit "Rehab." Though the singer has struggled with drug and alcohol abuse and a reported eating disorder, she gained the backing of several industry heavyweights, including Jay-Z, with her unique, retro-inspired talent.

Winehouse's spokesman was vague in his comments about the raid.

"The only thing I can tell you is that it has nothing to do with drugs and that Amy is fine and she has not been arrested or charged," the spokesman said.

Fielder-Civil's trial is scheduled to begin on Monday (November 12) in East London.

The pair has faced other legal trouble recently. Along with a friend, they were fined in Norway last month for possession of marijuana.

LL Cool J Expresses His Frustrations With Jay-Z

In a recent interview with MTV, LL Cool J explains his frustrations with Jay-Z.

To begin, LL says that he isn’t “Anti Jay-Z” but instead “Pro LL” and he doesn’t have any hard feelings toward Jay as a rapper. But the President Carter who sits behind the Def Jam desk? Different story.

Uncle L first questions Jay’s resume before becoming president.

“I just don’t feel like he had the necessary experience to do that job,” LL states. “I don’t’ know any other record company that he worked for where he learned how to run this business.”

He also suggest that Jay was hired for all the wrong reasons.

“This is a label that started in 1984 and you just can’t give somebody a job because you want to attract talent and look sexy…because there are artists that suffer,” he continued

LL says that he wasn’t one to underestimate Jay-Z initially, but after having him as president for some time now, LL says he knows the deal.

“The bottom line is – you gotta do your job man! And if you don’t know how to do your job then maybe universal needs to pay you the money you deserve as an artists and give somebody who really knows the job, the job.”

As the interview continues, LL turns his attention to Jay’s recent release of American Gangster.

“I haven’t spoken to him in a long time,” LL says when asked when was the last time he spoke with Hov. “I think it’s unfortunate.”

LL then delves deeper into his distaste for Jay by asking why there were no Def Jam artists on his album.

“Let’s take this soundtrack for instance, shouldn’t there be other Def Jam artists on this soundtrack,” he asks.

“Shouldn’t this be the big Def Jam project with Def Jam artists involved? Nas has a record, (another Def Jam artist) has a record,” LL says. “You have LL working on an album for a year and then you have the president putting out his album in the middle of the schedule. I mean… really look at what’s going on!”

But even though others may feel the same as he, LL knows why nobody is speaking up.
“Nobody’s talking about it and the reason nobody is talking about it is because nobody wants to be perceived as the guy who’s attacking someone that people love.”

Alicia Keys Wants To Work W/ Beyonce

With her third studio album As I Am landing in stores next week, Alicia Keys is poised to regain her reign over R&B. Here Keys opens up about the new album, talks of a possible collaboration with Beyoncé and her thoughts on America's troubling racial divide.

Keys' debut album Songs in A Minor won her five Grammy Awards, while her sophomore album Diary of Alicia Keys picked up another four, but despite her previous award-winning and multi-platinum selling successes, Alicia Keys is keeping cool, calm and collected about how her third studio album will fare.

"I don't feel any pressure at all," Keys told SOHH exclusively. "I think people just want things that make 'em feel something. So I know that when people hear this music they're gonna feel something, they're gonna be moved by it. They're going to feel more of that goodness -- so no pressure."

At 27, Keys is an accomplished actress, film producer, and musician who, despite her many achievements, continues to challenge herself to grow. With As I Am, Alicia says fans can expect to see a side of her that she hasn't revealed before.

"You can definitely expect the unexpected from this album," Keys admitted. "It's different. It has a new energy. It has a new feeling. It has like more of aggression to it. I've learned a lot this year and I've been through a lot. So I think that I've grown as a person. You definitely feel it. You hear it in the sound of it. You hear it in the passion in my voice. You hear it all the way around the board. So I know that you're gonna...It's exciting to be a little bit in a different place."

As I Am follows on the heels of Keys'recent big-screen appearances in Smokin' Aces and The Nanny Diaries, and while she is unparalleled in the music world, Keys says she's often compared to fellow actress Paula Patton (Idlewild, Déjà Vu).

"They said that we look like each other...that we look like sisters. We've gotten that a lot," Keys said

Fortunately, Alicia is supportive of her competition. In addition to her easygoing attitude regarding Patton, Keys is also enthusiastic about the possibility of collaborating with another potential rival - Beyoncé.

"I think that would be real fun," she said. "I think that me and B would do something crazy together and be able to kinda stretch in a way that would be unexpected. So I dunno, maybe the next record or her next record. Ya know, whenever we have a second to go in a room and really zone out. I think it would be crazy."

In related news, fans can visit to see Alicia Keys perform "Like You'll Never See Me Again." On November 13th the site will also feature Alicia's full Stripped performance including a cover of Force M.D.'s "Tender Love."

As I Am lands in stores on November 13.

Beanie Sigel On Returning To Roc-A-Fella

While sales figures for their marquee artists Jay-Z and Kanye West speak for themselves, Def Jam is looking for different ways to make sure other acts on Roc-A-Fella also enjoy success. Beanie Sigel spoke to Billboard about the past, present and future of "The Roc," as well as finding a new direction for his upcoming album.

"I told the producers, 'Don't make a track for me,'" says Beans when referring to his upcoming album The Solution. "[I told them] to make something I wouldn't do--something you'd want to hear me on." When Sigel's album is released on Dec. 11 fans will find collaborations with R. Kelly and the production team Dre & Vidal, who have previously done tracks with Jill Scott and Ludacris, among others.

"Roc-A-Fella dropped the ball with my last album," says Beans. "I shot seven videos. Did you see any of them?" At press time, 2005's The B. Coming has sold 419,000 copies. After spending almost a year in jail on weapons charges for parts of 2004 and 2005, Beans says he thought about joining Damon Dash Music Group. "Money was promised to me that didn't pan out," he says. "So I had to back away."

Sigel will continue to release "webisodes" from his mini-series via YouTube up until the album's release. Beanie's manager, Mark Byers, also reports that Beans may join Kanye West and R. Kelly for spot dates on their current tours.

MC Ren Returns With RBX As Concrete Criminals

Two west coast veterans have united with the revitalization of hardcore '90s gangster rap in mind. MC Ren, known for his dazzling abilities on the microphone alongside Ice Cube, Eazy-E and Dr. Dre in N.W.A., has not released an album of his own since 1998's Ruthless For Life. Ren was involved with two new N.W.A. tracks "Hello" and "Chin Check" which were released in 2000 from a dismissed reunion album.

While it won't be alongside Dr. Dre, MC Ren will be returning to the microphone alongside another of Dre's former artists in RBX as The Concrete Criminals.
"Ren is anti-fucking-industry. He ain't trying to fuck with nobody," RBX said on Thursday. "Ren is where I was almost about to go," said the Long Beach emcee about his reclusive friend. Both rappers have endured label contract struggles along with former associations. "He almost said, 'It's just me and my family and friends. Fuck that rap shit.'"

Despite nearly hanging up the lyrical laces, a mutual association, Rocc, brought the emcees together. After hearing what RBX and Rocc were working on, MC Ren reconsidered retirement. "[Ren] ain't workin' with nobody, and he chose to come back and work with us, that's a blessing. This is an indication that we did something right for the old school heads. We're bringing back a classic sound. The time wasn't over yet [then]. Some people was just tired of doing it, and the industry got tired of dealing with the knuckleheads. So they got tired of the music, and went with the watered-down version, 'cause you don't have to worry about Chingy running up in the studio with guns," said RBX. "Ren heard The Concrete Criminals, it took him back, and he wanted to be part of that. We went into the studio and started cutting, and it's being wrapped up right now."

The Concrete Criminals trio has yet to announce a label, but promises a 2008 release date. Presently, RBX is set to release Broken Silence next month, which features appearances and production by Snoop Dogg, LMNO and DJ Rhettmatic.

You can notice your thoughts, use them, learn from them, and find value in them. Yet you do not have to let them hold you back.

You can experience your feelings, explore their depths and find richness in them. Yet you do not have to let them stop you in any way.

You are free to act, free to think, free to love, free to move in the direction of whatever you choose. Nothing outside of you or inside of you can take that freedom away unless you let it.

When you find yourself building limitations in your mind, know that you have the power and ability to allow those limitations to dissolve completely away. When you feel yourself creating resistance, understand that you can just as easily release that resistance.

You are free at any time to take something toward which you've felt negative and turn it into a positive influence in your life. You are free to change, to grow, to learn and to create.

When you feel stuck, let that feeling be, and then you can just as easily let it go. Whatever happens, keep reminding yourself that freedom is always an option, real and available to you.

Styles P Asks Why J-Hood Should Be Released From D-Block

The war of words between The Lox and former D-Block member, J-Hood, are still heating up.

After publicly dissing his former crew via a YouTube video where he is seen dragging his D-Block chain across the sidewalk and then airing out the dirty laundry in another, J-Hood doesn't seem to be having the best of luck as far as getting a clean break from his contract with D-Block Records.

Since recently revealing that The Lox are refusing to release him in a statement to XXL,Styles P has come forward to reveal why he and his crew are doing so, despite going through the same thing before when trying to get their publishing back from Diddy back in 2005.

In a recent interview with HipHopGame, Styles admits to not letting Hood free and why.

"Fall the f--- back and come speak to us like a man before you go to the internet. Stop being corny," Styles said. "I told him he was off the label and then he went and got disrespectful by dragging the chain and disrespecting what we built. I told him then I wished him the best.

"Why the f--- should I let him off? Tell him to tell me why. He was off before he did the dumb sh--. He can get off if he makes a public apology on the internet. Make that apology nice and humble," continued the rapper.

J-Hood revealed in September that he was leaving D-Block and even sat down with Styles to make it official, but then went on a tirade, dissing his former crew and even aligning himself with their enemies, specially 50 Cent.

But as mentioned, he is stuck, for now.

"As all the majority of the fans out there know, I asked to be released from D-Block approximately three months ago and 'til this day I've yet to be released from the label," J-Hood said. "The CEOs in charge of the corporation are refusing to sign the papers necessary for me to go free as an artist, and on top of that, they [have] even [threatened] to ask for money for the release."

(L note: SP got a point, the boy hood was being real reckless, however it is no more reckless than they where when they rocked the "Let The Lox Go" shirts while still on Bad Boy.)

T.I. Reportedly Drops Request To Host Thanksgiving Dinner

T.I. has reportedly dropped a request to host a Thanksgiving dinner at his Jonesboro home as he awaits trial on federal weapons charges.

The Associated Press reports that T.I.'s lawyers dropped the request today (Nov. 8) due to the strong opposition from prosecuting attorneys.

Prosecutors said that T.I. wasn’t appreciative of “the generosity of the court granting his release and the gravity of the charges lodged against” him. They also felt the list of 95 names of requested visitors’ T.I. has submitted has been burdensome for court officials to run background checks which are far from complete.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, T.I. had requested that he be allowed to host a Thanksgiving dinner from 9:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. and only for a group of visitors whose names he has submitted for approval.

T.I. filed the motion Tuesday (Nov . 6) along with an additional request asking that cleaners be allowed to come in and care for his yard, pool and home.

As per his bond conditions, Judge Alan Baverman has said that the rapper is only allowed three pre-approved visitors at a time.

Dwight Thomas, one of T.I.'s three lawyers talked to the Atlanta Journal Constitution about the rapper's mindstate while on house arrest.

"He's doing fine. He's very upbeat. He's looking forward to his day in court."

T.I. was arrested Oct. 13 after allegedly trying to buy three machine guns and two silencers in an Atlanta area Walgreen's parking lot.

IHH Daily Update 11*8*07

Trey Songz says he just might take legal action against the Springfield, Mass. police department following his arrest last Sunday after a performance.

As previously reported, police said the R&B singer would not leave the crime scene as instructed during an investigation of gunfire following his concert at Springfield's Hippodrome.

Songz, born Tremaine Neverson, was taken into custody for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Kenny Bugg, who was with Songz, was arrested on the same charges while another man in their party, Jasper Murray, has disorderly conduct charges pending.

Anthony Williams, the man who allegedly fired the gun into the crowd outside the Hippodrome, is charged with multiple crimes including assault with intent to murder, assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Songz described the incident in detail to

"The show went real well. No incidents [inside]," Songz recalled. "As soon as we finished [performing], they turned the lights on and everyone started to leave.

"My homie goes to get one of the police officers to escort us out of there and [someone in the parking lot] started bussin' [firing a gun]. So we started ducking in the car. So my homie runs back to the car and gets in like, 'They bussin'!' By the time we look up, we see the police [had] apprehended somebody, so we said, 'We ain't finnin' to wait.' We got out the car and proceeded to walk, 'cause the hotel is only a block away. The police stopped us and were like, 'Hold up, hold up.' "
Songz said that the police were not letting anyone out of the parking lot without being searched. The artist said he and his entourage were trying to comply with the officers' request to search them, but things went badly.

"They go to my road manager Bobby and they wanna check him," he said. "Bobby tells them he had like $6,000 in show money — because if they started feeling on that, they might think something. So he tells the cops he's got the money in his pocket and the cops break bad with him. They grabbed the road manger by the neck, and I'm standing right beside him. So my bodyguard steps out and pushes me out the way because that's [his] second nature. They think because he steps up, he wants to stop something."

Songz said that one officer tried and failed to take down his tall, 300-pound bodyguard but did not succeed, so more officers jumped in.

"It was seven on him, beating his a--," Songz said bitterly. "He caught it in the back of the head with a nightstick. His face was swollen. His arm was out of place."

Songz said he too got roughed up after yelling at one of the officers. He said he was angry because he saw a group of white officers laughing about what had just happened, and verbalized his disdain.

"The officers were joking about hitting [us]," Trey fumed. "I was like, 'Man, y'all stomped my n---a's face in.' That's when they tackled me. It was like four officers on me. One officer had his knee in my throat. They was kicking me in the ribs. Talking to people in that community, they say that thing happens all the time."

Jennifer Flagg, chief of staff of the Springfield Police Department, told MTV News that Songz and his friends were arrested because officers found them to be "verbally and physically combative after attempting to cross the police line."

As for Songz's allegations of racism on the part of the police, Flagg said, "I would ask him why the other hundreds of African-Americans [who attended the show] were not harassed either." Flagg also said officers of different races were assigned to the scene, including black and Hispanic officers.

Songz says he has no connection to the shooter and police have said they have no reason to believe that one exists, although an investigation is still pending. No motive for the shooting has been given.

Jay-Z Set to Score 10th No. 1 Album

According to early projections from Nielsen Soundscan, Jay-Z is on pace to score his tenth No.1 Album when first week record sales are tallied next Tuesday.

According to Soundscan’s newly implemented Building Chart, which tracks early sales of new releases, Hov moved 179,000 copies of American Gangster during its first day in stores. Another chart topping album for the Def Jam president will tie him with Elvis Presley as the artist with the second highest amount of No. 1 debuts in history.

The Beatles currently hold the title for the most, with 19 No. 1 debuts. The Building Chart, which Billboard estimates to represent about 79% of the U.S. retail market, also predicts a debut in the Top 10 for Philly MC Cassidy, whose latest, B.A.R.S. (The Barry Adrian Reese Story), also hit stores this week.

During a hearing Friday in the R. Kelly child pornography case, a Chicago judge ruled that prosecutors will not be allowed to have an expert testify that child victims of sexual abuse sometimes deny the abuse ever happened.

Kelly is accused of engaging in sex acts with a 14-year-old girl, footage of which was filmed for a video that leaked to the Internet. The alleged victim has always denied that she is the girl in the tape.

The doctor was to take the stand and say that underage victims of pornography often respond to the trauma by delaying a cry for help, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. However, Circuit Court Judge Vincent Gaughan said the alleged victim never has made a "delayed outcry" or any "outcry" in this case - and in fact has denied she was the child on the tape, the Times reported.

Gaughan also ruled Friday that prosecutors may allow another expert to testify that the girl in the videotape appears to be underage.

As previously reported, Gaughan also scheduled a Dec. 18 hearing on whether a medical doctor can testify that the vein pattern on Kelly's hands matches that of the man in the videotape.

Raekwon Speaks On Trouble Within The Wu-Tang Clan; Wu Plan New Album Without RZA

Raekwon is so unhappy with Rza's direction with the new Wu-Tang Clan album that he threatened to release another Wu album without fellow member Rza.

In a recent interview with Hip-Hop personality Miss Info, Rae said that he and the other members of Wu are very unhappy with Rza's heavy guitar-layden beats on the group's upcoming comeback disc, 8 Diagrams. So much so that they will come out with a follow-up album if changes aren't made to this one, or of it's not permanently shelved.

"Rza's tryin to create too much of a orchestra, piano ...he's trying to do too much of this guitar @#!* like he got a guitar on his @#*$ing back," Raekwon said. "We don't want that and the fans don't know us for that." [Watch Here]

Rae said the rift began with musical critiques by the group members of Rza's new sound.

"'This is a new sound trust me.,I know where I'm at and I'm the Rza, just trust me,'" Rae said Rza told the group. "No, we're not trusting you because we're not walkin outta the studio happy. It's his vibe. He's like a hip-hop hippie right now."

After much back and forth, According to Raekwon, Rza still refused to change the music.

"Now it's to the point where it's like, yo B, I'm not havin it ... I'm not cosigning that," Rae said. "If you got seven or eight brothers telling you blah, blah, blah, you gotta take heed to that. You been out-voted, B."

But at this point, the group is already over budget and the album is pretty much finished. Though Rae said nobody's happy with the project except Rza, it looks like it will hit the street as is. If that happens, Rae said he and the other members will release Shaolin vs Wutang, a response album without Rza.

"We gotta strike back with something right away to let them know we wasn't in agreement with that," Raekwon said. "If this album @#*$s around and goes that way, its gonna be a big shock to the game."

Whether the artistic differences get settled before the album is pressed or not, Rae said the money situation needs to be set straight.

"Don't play with a grown man's pocket, B." Raekwon said. "At the end of the day, you may have felt like you put millions in a @#*$%'s pocket. We appreciate it, but you know what? Don't ever let a @#*$% feel like you stealin' from him or you takin' something from him or you bein' sneaky and you can't show and prove certain things."

Raekwon wasn't specific about the allegations of money mismanagement, but he as much as called Rza a thief.

"Don't rob me and be my friend," he said. "I ain't with that. You don't rob your friends, Rae said. "You might as well be pimpin' me or something. You ain't payin' me ... you ain't keeping me fresh.

Common "Banks it for Barack"

Although Diddy's "Vote Or Die" campaign didn't get it done (depending on who you ask), hip hop continues to remain involved in the election process. Rapper Common is now featured in one of a series of celebrity public service announcements to Get-Out-the-Vote for presidential hopeful Barack Obama. The videos are funded by the Vote Hope organization.

The 60-second public service announcement features Common letting people know that he'll be voting for Obama. “I’m voting for Obama because he’s just there to do some good in the world,” he says in the video, as he urges others to do the same.

Pitbull Can't Find His Place, "They Say I'm Too Latin For Hip-Hop"

With his bilingual rhymes and uptempo delivery, Miami-based rapper Pitbull has become a club favorite. But with the release of his latest LP Boatlift, the Cuban MC is looking to let fans know that he's not just a one-dimensional artist. SOHH caught up with Pitbull as he discussed his new album, his international hustle and why you'll never see him iced out.

"I'm bringing people to freedom through my music," said Pitbull of the meaning behind the title of his new record. "This album right now has records on here about everything. It's not only records that jump out at you in the club. I can do whatever, whether it's deep records, street records, political...and that's a great asset to have. They say I'm too Latin for hip-hop and too hip-hop for Latin. Nobody's figured me out yet. I can flip it on them at any time. I haven't even used that clip yet."

Pitbull recently just shot a video for his new single, "Secret Admirer," that he says was given straight to the internet and will be serviced to major video outlets next week. While most artists are aiming for BET spins out the gate, Pitbull says that taking his clip straight to the web was a no brainer. [Watch Here]

"Hip-Hop has become so over saturated," he explains. "Everyone is using the same marketing methods to promote their records. I felt that it was only right for me to use the net. I have a heavy following on the web. Like on MySpace, I have something like 600,000 friends, so I wanted to give it to them directly. I felt like, @#*$ what the networks want to do, I'm giving it to ya'll first."

With the net being world wide, it only plays into Pitbull's plans of getting money on all continents. The rapper says that he is using his material as a tool to cross all barriers including language and culture.

"There are so many opportunities for artists to get their faces out there and become a brand," he explained. "I went to a radio station and my biggest fan was Japanese. The music is not just touching one kind of person, it's all across the board. I'm not just on a domestic hustle, it's an international hustle."

And while most rappers may reward their hustle by copping a new chain or diamond-encrusted time piece, you won't see Pitbull flossing like that any time soon.

"I just don't need that @#!*, something hanging around my neck that's not making me any money," he says of his bling-free approach. "It's a bad investment and it just brings negative attention and energy. People see me around Miami, no rims, I ride stock. They know that I've paid my dues and I got respect. To me, it's really just dudes trying to get a piece of @#*$%, and I got plenty of p***y already."

Pitbull's new album Boatlift hits shelves on November 27 on TVT Records. It features guest spots from Trick Daddy, Trina, Fabo (D4L) and Jim Jones as well as production from proven hit makers like Mr. Collipark, Lil Jon and Play-N-Skillz.

Lupe Fiasco addresses Rumors, A Tribe Called Quest Controversy

Lupe Fiasco continues to clear up the Tribe Called Quest controversy that has now been dubbed "Fiascogate."

If you haven't been keeping up with the drama, it all escalated after Lupe forgot the lyrics to A Tribe Called Quest's "Electric Relaxation," during his tribute performance at VH1's 2007 Hip Hop Honors.

The slip up at the honors show led critics and fans alike to criticize and reprimand Lupe.

"I didn't really grow up on them like that." Lupe said in a recent interview with Angie Martinez.

"I'm well aware of what they did, I'm not brain dead to the situation" He quipped.

Lupe also took the time to disperse a rumor which placed him amidst a fight with a female during a T-Mobile party.

According to the rumor, a female dumped her drink on Lupe after he approached her--causing Lupe to assault the party goer.

"There's no truth to that story what-so-ever," said Lupe.

"Me and my homie--and a few of my compadres went to a T- Mobile party. Me and my homie were talking, there was a girl in there...she walks past us and spills her drink on my homie and walks off" He continued.

"So my man goes off and gets two Long Island Ice Teas--and throws em on her."

You can check out the interview below:

The line, which has become increasingly popular over the past two years, specializes in high end denim, t-shirts and sweaters. As part of the agreement, Scion will enter into a multi-year licensing deal with Signature Apparel Group for the brand. Artful Dodger founder and CEO Scott Langton will join Signature and act as creative director and head designer.

Artful Dodger represents the first of many acquisitions that will begin to shape our joint venture with Iconix.”

Royce Feeling some type of way, couldn't let it end that way. so he dropped this.

See the bright future

What has happened before has brought you to where you are. Yet the past has no control over where you can go from here.

Your past history does not create your future. The choices you make right now are what create the substance of that future.

Learn from your mistakes, but do not agonize over them. There is nothing you can do to change the fact that they happened, yet there is much you can do to move positively beyond them.

When you dwell on the past it holds you prisoner. When you let it go, that allows you to go anywhere you now choose.

People change, circumstances change, and you can change too. With each moment comes the opportunity to shake off the old assumptions and limitations, to give new purpose and meaning to life.

Give new energy, new effort, new commitment and determination to this day that you have the good fortune to be living. See the bright future that can be, and you will make it so.

50 Cent Beats Kanye West On A Technicality, "[Curtis] Was No. 1 Internationally"

50 Cent is calling a technicality to keep him in the rap game, after staking his career on a lost bet with Kanye West.

As previously reported, the rapper swore he'd hang up the mic if his album Curtis didn't outsell Kanye West's Graduation.

Fif lost. Graduation debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 by shifting 957,000 copies of his discs. Curtis came in at No. 2, selling 691,000 copies.

"[My album] was No. 1 internationally the week it came out," he told New York's Daily News. "It was the No. 1 European album!"

T.I. Asks Judge To Allow Him To Host Thanksgiving Dinner

As he awaits trial on federal weapons charges, T.I. is requesting a judge allow him to host a Thanksgiving dinner at his Jonesboro home.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, T.I. is requesting that he be allowed to host a Thanksgiving dinner from 9:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. and only for a group of visitors whose names he has submitted for approval.

T.I. filed the motion Tuesday (Nov . 6) along with an additional request asking that cleaners be allowed to come in and care for his yard, pool and home.

As per his bond conditions, Judge Alan Baverman has said that the rapper is only allowed three pre-approved visitors at a time.

Should Judge Baverman approve the conditions, T.I. would need to pay for additional guards for the dinner and he would only be able to serve non alcoholic beverages.

Beyonce has caused turmoil among students at a top religious college in Ethiopia after she met with the school's patriarch in advance of her two-hour concert last month in Addis Ababa, reports the Associated Press.

The 26-year-old singer's visit with Ethiopian patriarch Abune Paulos has been added to a list or reasons why students at Theological College of the Holy Trinity began a hunger strike on Sunday.

Daniel Techale, a 28-year-old alumnus who still lives at the school, said students were also protesting the close ties between the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and the government, alleged restrictions on their speech and food in the cafeteria. But Techale says students were also upset over the Beyonce-Paulos meeting.

"She provoked the whole situation," he said, accusing the patriarch of "practically a nonreligious act. It's unacceptable, or inappropriate, to say the least."

Authorities have been trying to persuade the students to end their hunger strike, which has so far sent about 30 of Techale's friends to the hospital, he added.

College official Bedilu Assefa confirmed that students had voiced various gripes about the school, but said: "What they have done is they have raised some administrative issues regarding food and clinical facilities. Nobody has protested against Beyonce. Never."

Student Kinetibebeu Assefa, 25, said that he had joined the protest to demand an improvement in cafeteria food and the firing of some college officials.

"There is no problem with Beyonce," he said. "But the (cafeteria) food is poisoned."

Diddy Announces Winner Of YouTube Assistant Search

After announcing that he was looking for a new assistant via YouTube back in July, the resumes came rolling in. Now, months later, the assistant search is over.

Via an appearance on "Oprah" on Tuesday (November 6), Diddy announced who he picked for the assistant position out of three finalists.

Heather Thompson was chosen by Diddy, immediately after giving her final statement as to why she should be chosen.

"I understand who the star is in this relationship," Thompson said.

Diddy ended his segment on Oprah by saying that he is actually looking for a total of four assistants, so the two finalists who were beat out by Thompson still have a chance.

The hip-hop mogul announced the assistant search on YouTube back in July, where applicants were advised to submit their video interviews directly to his channel.

J-Hood Says D-Block Won’t Let Him Out of His Contract

Former D-Block crew member J-Hood, who recently asked to be released from his contract with the Yonkers, NY based group, is now saying that the LOX have failed to honor his request.

In a statement released to XXL, Hood claims that D-Block management, which includes LOX members Sheek Louch, Jadakiss and Styles P, have refused to finalize the termination of their agreement.

“As all the majority of the fans out there know, I asked to be released from D-Block approximately three months ago and ‘til this day I’ve yet to be released from the label. The CEO’s in charge of the corporation are refusing to sign the papers necessary for me to go free as an artist, and on top of that, they [have] even [threatened] to ask for money for the release.”

Rumors of Hood’s dissatisfaction with the label had circulated around for some time until before he effectively confirmed them on a Youtube video that surfaced in late September.

In the clip, Hood was seen dragging his D-Block medallion on the ground, and later appearing onstage with the clique’s onetime nemesis, 50 Cent. In a subsequent interview with XXL, Sheek Louch said that D-Block would “gladly” release the young MC from his contract, citing the group’s own legal issues with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Bad Boy Records.

Now, Hood is likening his situation to that of his mentors. “We all know they went threw a similar situation earlier in their careers,” Hood said in his statement. “Lets hope that’s not what they have become, the biggest hypocrites.”

Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker has signed on to produce a drama series for Showtime based on the true story of Harlem heroin dealer Leroy "Nicky" Barnes, reports Variety.

The project, titled "Mr. Untouchable," is based on the Marc Levin-directed documentary of the same name released last week by producer Damon Dash for Magnolia Pictures. Whitaker and Levin will executive produce the Showtime series with "Law & Order: SVU's" David Burke serving as co-executive producer and writer.

"Mr. Untouchable" will tell the story of how Barnes built a drug empire in the 1970s that rivaled that of the Italian Mafia. It will show how he rose to great heights, but with his success coming at the expense of his Harlem community.

The series will also detail the government's war on drugs and how it failed for years to bring Barnes down.

In director Ridley Scott's newly-released Universal film "American Gangster," starring Denzel Washington as New York drug lord Frank Lucas, Barnes is portrayed by actor Cuba Gooding Jr.

Meanwhile Whitaker has also set up a drama project at FX. His upcoming features include "Winged Creatures," "The Night Watchman" and "Repossession Mambo."

Diddy’s attorney, Benjamin Brafman, confirmed the development in a statement to website

“I’ve been informed by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office that after a thorough investigation, they have made a decision not to authorize any arrests in connection with the incident involving Mr. Combs and Steven Acevado on October 13,” Brafman said. “I want to commend the D.A.’s office and the New York City Police Department for conducting a thorough and very fair investigation into this incident and not allowing this private disagreement between two acquaintances to turn into a criminal charge.”

According to witnesses, Acevedo and Puff were arguing at a Chelsea club when the dispute turned physical. The Bad Boy head was said to have struck the man, who he has reportedly known for over a decade, in the face while screaming “I’ll kill you punk!”

Dame Dash Speaks To BET About Kanye’s “Big Brother”

In a recent interview with BET, former Roc-A-Fella co-C.E.O. Damon Dash spoke about Kanye West’s recent song “Big Brother,” where the Chicago rapper addresses his relationship with Jay-Z:

“It sounds like a sneak dis record to me. You gotta understand certain things about Kanye; he doesn’t go at things like the average person does,” Dash tells “I feel like if he has something to say, he has to pose it in that way or he can’t communicate it at all. And that was the only way he could express why he doesn’t understand why he’s treated that way.”

He continues:

“It’s not like he could be gangsta about it and say,’Yo, this n***a’s playing me,’…I didn’t think it was a very complimentary record. N***as saying n***a on their d**ks and that was some real disrespectful stuff. I might have choked Kanye out for that.”

Jay-Z Pulls American Gangster from iTunes

If you’re looking to purchase the new Jay-Z album, which hits stores today, don’t bother checking Apple’s iTunes music store. Citing the cinematic feel of American Gangster, Hova has decided not to allow it to be sold on the popular digital music outlet.

According to Jay, he feels the project—which is a concept album based on the Denzel Washington film of the same name—should be digested as a whole, and not as single tracks. “As movies are not sold scene by scene, this collection will not be sold as individual singles,” Jay said in a statement.

Since its debut in 2003, iTunes has let users download individual tracks from officially released albums, allowing them to purchase only the songs they want rather than an entire LP.

While the album is currently still listed on iTunes, customers will receive an error message if they attempt to purchase it. American Gangster will be available for digital download, in its entirety, at, and

It was originally slated for release in late 2006, but for some reason didn't receive a date. Here we are a year later and still no album. What's the deal?

In recently speaking to MTV, the producer who has made it his job to prove that crunk ain't dead said that the project is still in the works and will be ready for release sometime in 2008.

According to Jon, it's still not done yet, so that was the hold up.

"It's probably really like 65 percent, maybe 70 percent done," Jon explained to MTV. "I'm still tweaking and coming up with other ideas and other collaborations I want to get done. [But] I'm back and forth so much now from Atlanta to L.A.; I'm trying to get more of the rap tracks down. Half of the album is going to be fusion rap and rock stuff, and half of it is going to be the stuff they normally know me from."

The reason for his back and forth to L.A. is his cartoon, "A-Town," which he originally told us earlier this year would be released on Comedy Central, but now is most likely gonna air on Will Ferrell's video Web site.

The cartoon will be a comedy focusing on the rapper, his family and their life in his hometown of Atlanta. "It's a hilarious cartoon, I think everybody's gonna love it," Lil Jon said. "Everybody thinks I'm gonna be the craziest character, but my family is crazier than I am."

Jon has not stopped producing either. He just finished a track for Pitbull's forthcoming The Boatlift, and he is working with BME acts -- Lil Scrappy, E-40 and a new artist, Korean pop singer Min.

The Roots To Release New Album April 29

The Roots will release their new album "Rising Down" April 29, their second release on Def Jam Records.

The album's title is inspired by a literary piece called "Rising Up and Rising Down" by William T. Vollmann.

Recording on the album is said to be completed although final details are currently under wraps. Questlove spoke to earlier this year about the release:

"We are using a lot of synthesizer, but I don't know if I could call this the electronic album or not," Thompson says. "Pretty much five or six songs are done, and four of them are synth-heavy...I know somehow I'm going to find the common thread of all this stuff," Thompson offers. "I don't know what to call it, but it's something."

"Rising Down" is the group's 8th full length release.
