Arizona Prosecutor Files Charges Against Lil Wayne

Today at a Wellton, Arizona justice court, the Yuma County Attorney’s Office formally filed felony drug and weapons charges against Lil Wayne.

According to a report from local ABC affiliate KNXV-TV, Wayne was present at the court session, where he was charged with one count each of possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, misconduct involving weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A judge also lifted a restriction that has been preventing Wayne from leaving the state. The rapper is now scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on February 12.

As previously reported, Wayne’s bus was stopped at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint outside Dateland, AZ at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan 22). After the Border Patrol’s canine unit alerted agents to the presence of illegal drugs, agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency searched the bus, finding 105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine and 41 grams of ecstacy. They also found a .40-caliber pistol that was registered to Wayne, who also has a concealed weapons permit from Florida.

The rapper was then arrested by the DEA along with two other men, one of whom was charged today with possession of marijuana. The second associate is expected to be formally charged later today.

Amy Winehouse Checks Into Rehab

Amy Winehouse's record label has confirmed that the troubled soul singer has in fact been admitted to a rehabilitation facility.

According to CNN, the British singer was admitted into a treatment facility yesterday (Jan. 24) as a result of her battle with substance abuse. The singer's record label, Universal Music Group, released a written statement verifying Winehouse's status as a rehab patient and says they fully support her during this tumultuous time.

"Amy decided to enter the facility today after talks with her record label, management, family and doctors," the label said in the statement. "She has come to understand that she requires specialist treatment to continue her ongoing recovery from drug addiction and prepare for her planned appearance at the Grammy Awards. ... Amy entered the facility by mutual agreement and continues to receive the full support of all concerned."

The statement also revealed that Winehouse was forced to cancel a scheduled appearance at an awards show in France on account of her checking into the facility.

The singer, who is nominated for six Grammys, may have entered the treatment program as a result of U.S. authorities being alerted to her reported drug use.

The singer was questionable whether she would appear at this year's Grammy ceremony due to required drug testing in order to obtain a passport.

"Amy's been told she needs to pass a drug test before she can get a visa," a source told Britain paper The Sun. "She is doing much better and has cut down her drug use but still isn't clean."

Many of the people around Winehouse hope that her admittance into rehab will offer the stability that she needs. The singer has had various high profile public incidents including being arrested last December and most recently having a video released by The Sun that allegedly shows the singer smoking what appears to be crack cocaine in a glass pipe.

But despite the Winehouse's recent mishaps, Universal seems to be encouraged that the singer can make a full recovery and that she will continue to create quality music for her fans.

"Amy is the most talented and important musical artist of her generation and has made huge strides on her road to recovery," the record label's statement said. "Universal Music Group wants nothing more than to see her take the time she needs to come back to full health and fulfill her incredible potential with the label."

The length of Winehouse's scheduled stint in rehabilitation is unknown.

Uncle Murda Speaks Out After Shooting

Uncle Murda, was shot in the head Tuesday (Jan. 22) night in Brooklyn. The Roc-A-Fella rapper suspects police may be behind the shooting, which left him with no major injuries.

As previously reported, Murda was shot while sitting in a parked car in Brooklyn. The rapper, whose latest release is titled "Respect the Shooter," checked himself out of the hospital the next day and headed into the studio with the bullet still in his head.

The irony isn't lost on him.

"The shooter got shot, but I'm good," Uncle Murda said this afternoon, making light of the graze he suffered in an apparent attempt on his life.

Murda (born Leonard Grant) admitted the incident was "a little bit scary," but said he's used to it.

"It ain't the first time," he said. "I've always gone through situations where people try to take my life. I've probably been shot at about five thousand times."

He said he knows he's not bullet proof, "just hard to kill, like Steven Seagal," the rapper joked. "It was a cheap bullet," Murda continued. "It didn't penetrate like it was supposed to."

While the bullet didn't cause any major damage, it did lodge itself beneath the skin. Doctors told Murda it would fall out in about two to three weeks. When that happens, Murda plans to memorialize the metal.

"I might make it my album cover," he said.

According to New York's Daily News, Uncle has a criminal record dating back to 1997, which includes an arrest for attempted murder of a cop and drug charges.

He thinks this time it may have been the other way around though, and was uncooperative with police who he said were on the scene not even minutes after the shot rang out.

"I think they was checking for me," he said. "I think it was the police that shot me this time. I don't know, I just got a feeling."

While Murda doesn't cite any hard proof to back this allegation, he says he'll follow his intuition.

"We doin' our own investigation, GMG/Roc-a-Fella/Man Hood/ Team Invasion/Violator investigations," Murda said. "We take care of business. We make them suffer."

Murda said he feels safe, but he knows this probably won't be the last shot taken at him.

"What comes around goes around," he admitted. "It sounds f*cked up, but it woulda been what I deserved. Everything I did before in the past might have not been right but it just happened to go down how it went down. I don't want that to happen, but it woudn't be surprising being that's the life I live."

Murda has two Green Lantern mix tapes out, 2 Hard for Hip Hop and Respect the Shooter. His 2008 Roc-A-Fella release is almost complete and will feature Jay-Z and Nicole Ray on the mic with production by Green Lantern, Toonheads, Roc Wilder, The Winnerz Circle's Steve O, Stylez and Bryan Stanley of Team B Music.

Joe Budden Preps Sophomore Album For Spring Release

With his latest mixtape Mood Muzik 3 still scheduled for a retail release on February 26, New Jersey rapper Joe Budden has announced that he is partnering up with Boston-based indie label Amalgam Digital to release his official sophomore album Padded Room. has confirmed that Padded Room, Budden’s first album since his 2003 self-titled debut, will be released some time this spring.

“It’s complete,” Budden told Billboard. “It basically will be in the same vein as Mood Muzik, just a little more structure and the mood will probably be a little lighter. I’m definitely pleased with the direction that it’s going.”

Wyclef Teams Up With Motorola and Matt Damon

With the recent steroids probe by the Albany Times Union, the news that Wyclef Jean has a few exclusive new partnerships has been overshadowed. The artist, humanitarian and ex-member of The Fugees announced that he is working with Motorola to promote and distribute exclusive material.

"I've got to find a new way to introduce my music," says Jean. "I might do 60 or 70 songs for an album, but I can only put 20 on the album. So the idea that I can promote music through a telephone, it's great. It allows me to get out new music."

After some initial talks with the company during January's Consumer Electronics Show, Jean made the deal official. While nearly every artist and most fans are familiar with ringtones and the amount of money they generate, Wyclef tells Stuart Dredge of Yahoo News that he is more interested in whole songs than the standard 30-second clip most cell phone carriers offer.

"You have to be a great musician," adds Jean. "But it's important to still learn the technology, because you don't want to get left behind. I want to test the sonics, so the song still sounds like you want it to sound. If you get that perfect mix for the cell phone, it's gonna sound hot on a real system."

In addition to his deal with Motorola, Wyclef has also struck a partnership with Matt Damon. Jean will score the music for the documentary Running the Sahara. The documentary was narrated and executive produced by Damon to raise awareness for his H20 Africa initiative. Running the Sahara focuses on three renowned marathon runners, who take on a 111 day expedition to raise awareness for Africa's water crisis.

DMC Lobbies For Adoption Rights In New Jersey

DMC, of the legendary trio Run DMC, appeared at the New Jersey Statehouse on Thursday (January 24), in which he asked lawmakers to give adoptees the right to access their birth records.

The rapper (real name: Darryl McDaniels) lobbied for adoptees' rights to their birth records and in doing so, did it as himself and not the celebrity he's grow into over the years.

"This isn't about DMC the celebrity," he told a Senate committee, according to New York's News Day. "This is really about identity and truth of a human being's existence."

43-year-old DMC learned he was adopted as a child at the age of 35, and ever since, has become a supporter of adoption rights legislation.

Under New Jersey law, adoptees can only see a birth certificate with their adoptive parents' names. They do not have access to the name of their birth parents.

The proposed law DMC is lobbying for would allow future adoptees to get birth certificates with the names, ages, birthplaces, birth dates and occupations of biological parents.

After hearing from the rapper, the Senate committee voted unanimously to release the bill, and now it can be considered by the full Senate. It passed New Jersey Senate in 2004 and 2006, but has never made it into law.

"This isn't about us going back to make the birth mother's life hectic," DMC explained. "I believe there should be a right. That is somebody's identity, you all, somebody's identity."

In 2006, VH1 premiered a documentary titled "DMC: My Adoption Journey," in which DMC reunites with his biological mother and ultimately, finds himself. To DMC, it was one of the defining moments in his life.

"It was the most difficult thing ever," DMC told in a past interview. "Forget about gold, forget about money, forget about everything. That's what it's all about. That's why I became DMC, to do that."

Later that year, he launched the Felix Organization. Its main goal is to provide opportunities that will enrich the lives of children growing up without parents.

"We build facilities for these kids where they can go and learn what the purpose in destiny is because you got a lot of kids that are in foster caring and they get shuffled through the system," he told us last year. "When they get 18 years old, they get thrown out on the street and they either end up dead or in jail. I wanna take these kids at an early age -- say ten, eleven, twelve -- and teach them whatever it is that they have a desire to be, they can be. Look at me. All they need is opportunity, information and direction."

Expect the best

Some people make a practice of expecting the worst, in an effort to avoid being disappointed. Yet when you expect the worst you also focus on it and visualize it, thereby pushing yourself in a negative direction.

A more positive and effective strategy is to expect the best. Then build upon that expectation with preparation and action.

Expect the best, and visualize, in great detail, your own participation in it. That puts you into a powerful frame of mind, orients you toward success, and brings your expectations to life.

Expect the best, and you enable yourself to recognize and make full use of the opportunities coming your way. Expect the best, while preparing to handle whatever may come along, and you'll be ahead of the game from the very beginning.

No, life will not always live up to your highest expectations. Yet when the disappointments do come, choose even then to expect the best eventual outcome, and you're much more likely to get it.

Base your expectations on the best that you can imagine for every situation. More often than not, you'll go precisely where you expect to go.

Compton Seeks Ban On Suge Knight & Affiliated Gang’s Activities

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, the city of Compton, CA has filed an injunction with an L.A. County judge that would make it illegal for members of the Mob Piru street gang—including Death Row CEO Suge Knight—to congregate in a northeast section of the city.

Following the lead of other Southern California communities like Anaheim, Oxnard and Riverside, Compton’s injunction hopes to curb the atmosphere of fear surrounding the gang’s continued criminal activities.
“This is crazy,” said Knight to the Times. “I’m a 42-year-old businessman, not a gang member. I don’t even live in Compton anymore . . . . This injunction names people who are already in jail — and at least one guy who is long dead.”

The injunction would create a “safety zone” bounded by Bullis Road on the west, Pine Street on the north, Thorson Avenue on the east and Rosecrans Ave. on the south. The ban would prevent an estimated 200 gang members from congregating, carrying guns, using gang signs, creating graffiti, fighting, drinking alcohol or staying on the street past 10 p.m.

The decision is expected to be controversial, as such bans can open the door for extreme police harassment. “What you find is that the whole community becomes terrorized by law enforcement,” Kim Saunders, a city planning commissioner told the Times. A hearing is scheduled today to enact a temporary injunction until the court can hear opposing arguments for making it permanent.

Uncle Murda Shot In The Head

It has been confirmed that Roc-A-Fella rapper Uncle Murda has checked himself out of the hospital yesterday (Jan. 22) after being shot in the head on Tuesday (Jan. 22).

"That's Uncle Murda, he don't die," Murda's manager Hood said.

By law, the hospital has to notify police whenever a shooting victim is treated. But the rapper, who's latest release is ironically titled "Respect the Shooter," is keeping mum about who did the shooting or even if it's known who the trigger man is.

"The police know about as much as you know, nothin'," Hood said. "Uncle Murda don't deal with no police, he deals with the streets. We don't talk to police."

Murda (born Leonard Grant) called into the New York radio show The Wendy Williams Experience yesterday and said he was self medicating with Hennessy and Newports.

Though someone may have tried to kill him, it's business as usual for the rapper. His manager said he's in the studio every night, just like he always is and didn't stop recording until the wee hours of this morning.

Murda's still on track for a Def Jam release this year and has put out two mixtapes with DJ Green Lantern "Uncle 2 Hard For Hip-Hop" and "Respect The Shooter."

Rock Of Heltah Skeltah Released On $125,000 Bond

According to a statement from the rapper’s lawyer, Jamal “Rock” Bush, one half of Boot Camp-affiliated group Heltah Skeltah, was released from Rikers Island today (January 24) after posting a $125,000 bond. He was indicted on assault and attempted murder charges, and he is still scheduled for an arraignment in Brooklyn Supreme Court within the the next month.

As previously reported, Rock was arrested on January 15 after authorities accused him of shooting an alleged pimp and gang member in the neck on a Brooklyn street, causing paralysis. Authorities believe that Rock is also a pimp, and that the shooting was a result of an argument over a prostitute. “Rock vehemently denies all charges and patiently awaits his day in court,” said his attorney, Kenneth Montgomery.

In related news, Rock is staying busy by preparing his solo mixtape, Shell Shock, which will feature appearances from Sean Price, Buckshot, Smif N Wessun, Rustee Juxx and more. He is also working with Sean Price on the long-awaited Heltah Skeltah reunion album D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team).

Gnarls Barkley Preps Sophomore Release

Gnarls Barkley is set to release their long-awaited sophomore album this April and the genre-stretching group is looking toward their first single.

Rolling Stone recently previewed two tracks from the project, which are reportedly competing for lead single honors.

The pair of cuts have been characterized as drastically different; with one cut leaning towards the funky side, thanks to the use of an organ and French horns. The second song is a darker ballad, marked by an acoustic guitar and Cee-Lo's foreboding echo, "Who's gonna save my soul? / I know I'm out of control."

The latter is said to be more highly favored by Gnarls.

Despite previous plans to release the new album by December 2007, the project, which is rumored to be titled Atlantis, is scheduled for release this April.

Amy Winehouse Not In Rehab, Despite Reports

Amy Winehouse has not checked herself into rehab, despite early reports and recently being exposed on video allegedly doing drugs.

People magazine has confirmed with Winehouse's rep that yesterday (Jan. 22) that Wihehouse had checked herself into a rehab facility, she was actually just visiting a doctor.

"Amy is not in rehab," said the rep. "She was seeing a doctor who she regularly sees as part of her ongoing treatment. It was a regular appointment which she attends all the time. She has not checked in overnight."

Yesterday The Sun released a shocking video of the singer allegedly smoking crack. The footage shows the British singer at her home in east London talking to friends before lighting a glass pipe and inhaling. The video also captures Winehouse admitting she has taken six Valium to "bring her down."

This morning, Winehouse's father told UK's Evening Standard that the footage posted on The Sun website came as little surprise to him.

"All that picture shows is what everybody knew anyway," Mitch Winehouse told reporters. "Yes, I am worried about her but this picture doesn't show anything we didn't already know before. It just shows me the tabloids are resorting to underhand tactics to expose her and we already know what the problems are."

As previously reported, Winehouse's attendance at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards show was already in jeopardy since the singer would have reportedly been required to submit to drug testing in order to attain a visa to travel to the ceremony. She has been nominated for six awards, including Record Of The Year for "Rehab," Album of the Year for Back to Black and Best New Artist.

Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige, recently weighed in on the younger talent.

"Someone like Amy Winehouse is so important to the music business right now," Blige told Interview magazine. "It's very painful (to see her battle drugs). I hope she makes it. I think it (the music industry) kind of got lost and we ended up in a drought for a while, but I see it making a turn, so instead of music being just synthetic, we'll see it going back to actual instruments. That's what I'm hoping for anyway."

Blige also battled issues with drugs and alcohol early in her career.

Def Jam Sued For $20 Mil Over Chrisette Michelle Contract

The man who claims responsibility for finding and developing Grammy-nominated R&B singer Chrisette Michelle is suing Island Def Jam for management rights to the songstress.

Douglas "Biggs" Ellison has filed a $20 million dollar lawsuit against the label, claiming that Def Jam and Shalik Berry (A&R), in cahoots with Chrisettes' parents, tried to unlawfully weasel the artist out of her exclusive contracts with Ellison's production company, Four Kings Productions, Inc.

The lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court claims that Michelle's parents waited just long enough for Four Kings' hard work to pay off before stepping in and claiming the profits, according to a Four Kings press release.

"As soon as the artist's mother saw that Chrisette was receiving money, all a direct result of the efforts of the production company under its contracts with the artist, Lynette Payne quit her job as a teacher and, in willful disregard of the artist's contractual obligations to Four Kings, usurped management functions regarding her daughter's newly found success, in an effort to keep the money in the family," Ellison asserts in the lawsuit.

Ellison said he met with the Paynes and Berry in Def Jam's New York office and they tried to get him to release Michele from her contract with his company.

"Mr. Payne knew about his wife's attempts to take over management of their daughter's suddenly burgeoning career, and hoped that his role in trying to take over management of the artist could be kept in the background," Ellison's lawsuit states.

He further alleges that Def Jam, Berry and the Paynes made business decisions that essentially cut him out of receiving any monies from the sales of Michele's debut release, I AM. Ellison had already entered into a contract with Island Def Jam in September of 2005 and completed several songs that appeared on that album.

Michele filed a lawsuit against Ellison in July 2007, kicking off the court battle with claims that the production company honcho embezzled money from her and harassed her. Though she later withdrew that claim, Ellison said his reputation was scarred when the news hit the media.

Ellison also counter sued Michele for breach of contract in a previously filed lawsuit.

Michele was recently nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance for her song "If I Had My Way," featured on I AM.

Jay Z & Kanye Lose Touch

Raekwon says Jigga & Ye have lost touch with their original fans and the streets. He believes their fame and wealth have seperated them from an entire generation of hip-hop fans of oridinary people.

“A lot of street people don’t put stock in them anymore because they aren’t doing enough to excite anyone. (They should) Come back to the hood and drop $100,000.”

When asked if he'd donate the same amount, Raekwon quickly replied that his financial situation wouldn't allow him to do so.

Ying Yang Twins to Appear on Dr. Phil

Rappers Kaine and D-Roc of Atlanta based duo the Ying Yang Twins are scheduled to appear on an upcoming episode of the Dr. Phil talk show to debate a recent campaign to put an end to saggy jeans.

The pair have been invited onto the show to discuss the issue alongside the founders of the Dallas based Hip-Hop Government organization, Rev. Al Sharpton and Dallas Deputy Pro Tem Mayor Dwaine Caraway.

Jay Scroggins, Damon Wofford, and Chris Williams launched Hip-Hop Government in 2005 as a way to get young people within the Hip-Hop culture involved in the political process. In October of 2007, the group launched its “Pull ‘Em Up” campaign against the fashion trend of sagging jeans and exposed boxer shorts. The men believe that the trend is often misinterpreted by people outside of the culture and used to stereotype young people, ultimately hurting their chances of securing employment.

Hip-Hop Government eventually erected 17 billboards across the city publicizing the campaign. While their project seems well intentioned, the “Pull ‘Em Up” campaign and similar pushes in other cities have stirred up much controversy. Opponents have called the measures an affront to free speech and another excuse for authorities to racially profile minority youth.

“We are excited for the opportunity to address issues that concern our culture,” Williams said of the appearance on Dr. Phil. “Too often, when members of the hip hop community are in the media, it’s for something negative. It feels good to know that we are being invited because we are recognized for our positive contributions to the community.”

According to the Ying Yang Twins’ Myspace page, the episode will air on January 28.

Soulja Boy: The Hottest MC In the Game??

The teen Hip-Pop phenomenon certainly had everyone 'cranking' that a while ago but now most people are giving him a rather perplex look with his latest comments.

The "Crank Dat" star, who's up for a Grammy, said he believes he's the number 1 hottest rapper out right now. If MTV did another list of hottest MCs right now, he had this to say. "I think if y'all did it right now, yeah, I deserve to be on there."

When Weezy's, Ye's and Jigga's name were thrown out there as to who's hotter he candidly replied "Right now, yes [I'm hotter than them]." "Today, January — whatever the date this is — 2008, yes [I am the hottest]."

Soulja Boy, who broke a digital-download records earlier this year by selling over 3 million, also considers himself a pioneer of sorts.

"They'll say I opened up a lot of doors for people. The first person who started this, what we call hip-hop, opened the door for me. It probably wasn't a party track or a 'Crank That,' it probably was something way, way, way different than what I'm talking about, but he still opened the door for what I'm doing, and if I never would have did this, [the next] wouldn't come."

Ghostface Killah Upset With Fans Over Sales, "I Thought Y'all Loved Me"

In this videotaped message from a tour stop in Norfolk, Va., Wu-Tang Clan member and solo star Ghostface Killah laments the fact that fans are illegally downloading his latest CD, The Big Doe Rehab, rather than ponying up the cash to buy it.

"I thought y'all motherf*ckers loved me man," Ghost said. "You know I go all out for y'all man, and I love y'all man, but y'all n*ggas be hurtin' the kid, because y'all don't wanna go cop our CD, you feel me? Y'all rather download our sh*t, which is cool, whatever whatever, whatever. But it's like come on man. We do this, we spend a lot of time in the studio, and puttin' this work in to come out with no results when we drop our albums and sh*t man."

No slouch when it comes to mathematics, Pretty Toney knows that having over 100,000 friends on MySpace and selling under 50,000 albums in the first go-round doesn't add up.

"So I'm just saying that like 115,000 friends on the MySpace and I get like 30,000 or something like that in the first week, that's not good man, 'cause I know a lot of y'all got my sh*t, but y'all just downloaded it man," he said. "I'm askin y'all to go to the store and buy that. I'm using all these samples trying to put all this sh*t together for y'all man, and y'all n*ggas is still on that bullsh*t man."

Ghost debuted at No. 41 with his latest effort, pushing 35,600 copies in his first week and landing behind the likes of Scarface, Drama and Wyclef Jean. He said that numbers like those may make him quit rapping altogether.

"If y'all really rollin with the kid, snap out that sh*t man," he said. "This is real talk man. It's comin' from your homey man. Y'all n*ggas gonna make me leave the game based on n*ggas doin' sh*t like that man. I thought y'all loved me, man. Go cop that CD man, even if you downloaded that sh*t man, go to the store and cop that man. If you really love your man."

Ghost is even offering "personal meetings" with anyone who brings a CD to a show as proof of purchase.

"When I come to your town, show me that motherf*ckin CD," he said. "Show me the CD and we could all have meetings. I'll take a personal meeting with all y'all n*ggas every time I'm in the town, just bring me a CD to the show me and show me you did that, and I"ll sit there and kick it with y'all. We can get goosed out, whatever y'all wanna do."

"We can all have a pow wow," Ghost added. "But yo, don't front on the kid like that. I didn't front on y'all when I delivered it man, don't front on me like that man."

Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday in a Manhattan apartment in a possible drug-related death, police said. He was 28.

According to the New York Times, Ledger was found naked and unconscious with pills strewn all around him in an apartment owned by actress Mary-Kate Olsen.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the apartment. Pimp C's Death Remains A Mystery

Seven weeks after the death of Texas rap pioneer Pimp C, his exact cause of death continues to elude the public.

Despite initial reports that autopsy results would be available 6-8 weeks following his death, the Los Angeles County Coroner's office is still awaiting toxicology results for rapper Pimp C (born Chad Butler).

A representative for the L.A. County Coroner's office said it could take three to six months to determine a cause of death in the case; meaning it may be as late as June before family and fans may learn what happened to Pimp C.

As previously reported, Pimp C was found dead in his room at the Mondrian Hotel in Los Angeles on December 4th.

One half of the legendary Port Arthur, Texas duo UGK, along with Bun B, 33-year-old rapper Pimp C was discovered with no apparent injuries and no drug paraphernalia present, leading authorities to believe he died of natural causes. Because of the absence of any signs of trauma, last month the coroners office ruled out the possibility of foul play in the case.

Hip-Hop mogul Diddy aka Sean Combs, seems to have got himself into a tough spot yet again.

Diddy, who has been cleared of any criminal charges stemming from an incident in which he was accused of assaulting Real Estate agent Gerard Rechnitzer at an after party last February, now has four witnesses pointing the finger at him

Gerard, said he saw Diddy trying to hook up with his fiance outside of the Roosevelt Hotel. When Gerard tried to lead the lady away from Diddy, Diddy allegedly let his pimp hand loose.

Marianna Ruiz, one of the four witnesses, said "I just kind of remember seeing [Rechnitzer] go flying, not flying as in like feet off the ground, but he went back significantly. I was just in shock that somebody would ... just kind of strike somebody out of nowhere."

Gerard is currently seeking unspecified damages in his civil suit.

Video surfaced yesterday showing what appears to be Amy Winehouse smoking crack.

The critically acclaimed singer's problems with substance abuse have been well documented. Her record label Universal Republic released the following statement today:

"We are deeply disappointed and upset by these latest revelations and are doing everything we can to offer Amy our full support in dealing with her problems."

Young Buck Explains Relationship With 50 Cent, Entertains Game Collabo

Although G-Unit's Young Buck has been quiet as of late, he's back and ready to get his Cashville Records imprint off the ground. But, while he preps new projects and his third solo album, Buck found time to address a question on a lot of fans' minds -- what's the deal with him and 50 Cent?

In a recent interview, Young Buck explained why it looks as though he and his G-Unit boss are distant, but insisted that there is no beef.

"A lot of people want to see me succeed and that's why I created my own brand, Cashville Records," Buck told the website. "I'm just stepping up to the executive bracket. I'm still a part of G-Unit, 50 is still my boss when I'm doing G-Unit and I'm my boss over here. I'm trying to establish me and just getting to my money.

"[Me and 50] don't communicate as much as we used to, but that's cool because I'm not the type of artist that's gonna wait for the CEO to make a move for me," he continued. "I respect 50 to the utmost. Even though at times to the world it seems like 50 ain't down with me, I still stay loyal to the n---- because he put me in this position. It's just he's more focused on 50 more than anybody. Everybody wonders, what's up with Buck and Fif? He's a business man. He gets the final word and makes the [business] decisions for G-Unit. Anything outside of that, you gotta ask 50 about."

So while making clear that he's still loyal to 50, but is focused on being his own boss, Buck revealed some details about his next album, titled Product Of The South, which is coming up soon -- April 1st to be exact.

So far, the rapper revealed that artists such as Young Jeezy, Plies, Devin The Dude and Brotha Lynch Hung would make appearances, while production efforts were handled by Hi-Tek, Drumma Boy and Sha Money XL.

That's not it either. Buck also revealed that he's changed up his music somewhat, making it totally different from his past G-Unit releases.

"It's a totally new feel to the music," he explained. "I can definitely tell you it's gonna be all fresh sounds. I'm working with new producers. I wanted a separate sound and feel from G-Unit. I mean, how could it be a new label if I went with the same stuff as ya'll used to hearing from G-Unit?"

He even went as far as to say, if The Game was down for a collaboration, so would he.

"My label is Cashville, not G-Unit," said Buck. "We'll see who chooses to holler and if it's a positive move that's going to benefit the label and my artists, then we'll work it out. It's a whole new year, there's new money to go get.

"A lot of those situations [between 50 and other artists] were obviously not my situations. I'm open to those that are open to me. I ain't trippin' if [Game] ain't trippin'," he continued.

Product Of The South is slated for release April 1 through his Cashville Records imprint via Sony.

50 Cent Forms Indie Film Production Company

50 Cent's entertainment empire continues to grow. During the Sundance Film Festival this weekend, the rapper and sometimes actor announced that he plans on producing independent films.

According to the Los Angeles Times, 50 Cent (born Curtis Jackson) held a news conference this Saturday (Jan.19) at the House of Hype in Park City, Utah to declare the formation of his new company.

50's partners in the new venture include longtime manager Chris Lighty and Randall Emmett; who produced the 50 Cent films Home of the Brave and Righteous Kill.

Thus far the new production company has not been named, and despite the new venture, 50 says he continues to have a passion for music.

As previously reported, 50 will play a drug dealer in Righteous Kill, which stars powerhouse actors Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino.

Righteous Kill is scheduled to arrive in theatres on April 18.

American Gangster Snubbed At The Oscars, Eddie Murphy Nominated For Worst Actor

While American Gangster was a smash at the Box Office, the movie and most all of its cast were missing from the list of Oscar nominations that came out this morning.

The flick - which stars Denzel Washington as the infamous Harlem heroin king of the '70s, Frank Lucas, along with notable appearances by T.I., Common and The Rza - was passed over for a Best Picture nomination, and Washington was skipped for the Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role category.

Ruby Dee, who played Lucas' mother in the movie, was the only American Gangster star to represent for the flick with an Oscar nomination. Dee got a nod for the Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role category. The movie scored a nomination in the Art Direction category, as well.

Eddie Murphy was also absent from the Oscar nominations roster. He won a statue at last year's ceremony for his role as a drug addicted soul singer in the critically acclaimed Dream Girls, but this year, he's up several times for a slightly less honorable award.

The Razzies are reserved for the worst of the worst and the funny man scored five of the nominations for his roles in the movie Norbit, including worst actor and actress.

In addition to the move's title character, Murphy donned a dress as Norbit's obnoxious and obese wife and layed on a thick accent as an old Asian man. For that, he's named as a contender in the Worst Screen Couple and Worst Supporting Actor categories.

"We decided that each of his characters was so offensive that he deserved individual nominations," John Wilson, the founder of the Golden Raspberry Awards, told New York's Daily News.

The Razzies will announce the winners Feb. 23, the day before the Oscars.

As previously reported, the writer's strike may cause all of the ceremonies this awards season to drastically change their format. But right now, the Oscars are scheduled to be presented Feb 24 at the Kodak Theater in LA.

Lil Kim To Imperial Records?

Late last week rumors swirled that Lil Kim was in the process of signing to Imperial Records. Although label representatives would not confirm the deal, they also did not deny the rumors. Lil Kim's management was also unavailable for comment.

If the move does indeed go through, Imperial will be Kim's first home since Atlantic Records, where she released four albums, dating back to 1996's Hardcore as well as her earlier work with Junior M.A.F.I.A.

Having just released the mixtape Ms. G.O.A.T. last month with DJ Mr. Cee, Lil Kim is preparing her first album since 2005's The Naked Truth, an effort that garnered the coveted five microphones in The Source magazine, despite failing to earn any plaque. In the time between 2005 and 2007, Lil Kim served over one year in a Philadelphia prison for perjury.

Imperial Records is a historic imprint that was reactivated in the last two years by EMI. Responsible for such mainstream names as Cher, Fats Domino and The Hollies, Imperial's new agenda has focused primarily on urban acts, namely Fat Joe, who found hit success both with "Make It Rain" and now with "I Won't Tell." Rasheeda and Bizzy Bone reportedly also are signed to the label.

The Game Nearing Completion On "LAX"; Dr. Dre Involved

According to The Game's DJ, Nu Jerzey Devil, the Compton rapper his nearing completion on his third and possibly final album "LAX."

In a recent interview with MTV's Mixtape Monday, Nu Jerzey Devil said the album was 80% complete and that Dr. Dre had recently dropped off some tracks.

"[Dr. Dre] dropped some stuff off," Nu Jerzey Devil said. "But I'm not sure if Game did anything to them yet."

"LAX" is slated to drop this spring and it looks like the LP could be the final one for The Game.

"He's fed up with all the BS," Devil said of Game's plans to retire. "Unless something tremendous happens with this album, he'll probably fall back and play the executive role. But this album is sounding better than his first two. He's at his peak. I'mma do everything in my power to keep him going. I think everything will be good."

The Game is expected to drop a mixtape entitled "Am I My Brother's Keeper" before "LAX" hits stores.

Lupe Fiasco Elaborates On Retirement Talk

Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco is basking in the glory of his sophomore album, The Cool, holding the title of #1 rap album on the charts four weeks in a row, but his fans should savor each track; there might not be more to come. After performing for a sold out crowd at Las Vegas' House of Blues this past Friday (January 18), Lupe chopped it up backstage about his lack of desire to be in the industry much longer.

Lupe first made remarks regarding retirement back in November, but now seems more resolved than ever. When asked what is currently the best and worst aspect of rap music he declared flatly, "Rap music." Though he wouldn't elaborate on his enigmatic response he did go on to say he was "85% sure" he would be retiring soon. "It actually fluctuates," Lupe continued, "It was 96% about a week ago…I just get tired you know? I get tired. It's a tiring pace that I keep. You see that [show I just did]? I gotta do that again tomorrow. With this [hoarse] voice I gotta find a way to do it again. Then get on a bus for 16 hours, get up and do it all over again for the next two weeks."

But along with the daily stresses of coping with the demands of performing, it seems that Lupe has also grown bored with the industry. When asked if the reality of fame and success had lived up to his expectations, Lupe responded, "I realized stuff that was exciting to me [when I found fame] was stuff I was already doing. A lot of the stuff that people would equate with success, I was already doing at like 19. So now that I'm here at 25 it's like …[there's not much left to excite me]"

With a slew of rave reviews and overflowing venues constantly chanting his name, the burning question now is how much longer will the four-time Grammy nominee decide to make music? "I don't know; we'll see," he says with a slight smirk, "I always look for motivation and inspiration…that's why I only say 85%."

Missy Elliott Resurfaces, Preps First New Album In Two Years

Female rapper, Missy Elliott, hasn't really been around much since she dropped her last album in 2005, titled The Cookbook.

Sure, she showed up on Keyshia Cole's single, "Let It Go," but besides that and a few other appearances, she's been absent from the scene.

The wait is over. Missy recently resurfaced with two new songs -- "Ching-A-Ling" and "Shake Your Pom Pom," both of which will appear on Atlantic's forthcoming "Step Up 2 the Streets" and her new solo album expected the first quarter of this year.

Already, she's making an impact. "Ching-A-Ling" has debuted at no. 52 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

And according to Billboard, the rapper/producer plans to reunite with Timbaland for her as-yet-titled new album, which is tentatively slated for May.

Snoop Dogg Renews Wedding Vows With Wife Shante

Snoop Dogg is turning into a good guy in the media. After showing his family side on his new hit E! reality series "Fatherhood," the rapper has reportedly renewed his wedding vows to his wife Shante.

According to British paper The Mirror, Snoop Dogg recently surprised Shante by secretly arranging a ceremony to renew their vows. Shante thought they were going to a friend's anniversary party.

"Snoop got up to toast the 'anniversary couple' and started talking about his wife. It was so sweet," a source told the paper.

The couple seems closer than ever, despite almost ending their long marriage in 2004, when Snoop filed for divorce.

"I was going to split up with my wife -- my wife wasn't going to split up with me," he reportedly said last month, blaming it on his fast lifestyle. "You know, I was caught up with Hollywood, and the girls and the night life.

"I thought I was the man and I was willing to give up what I had at home for that, until I realized that what I had at home was irreplaceable, so I gave that up to go back home," he continued.

The rapper reportedly said that the thought of another man in his home raising his kid was too much to bear.

"I just don't want another man raising my kids," he explained. "That was the main goal. I had kids with my wife because I wanted to be with my wife. And those three babies are all wanted, and I wanted to be with them."

In related news, Snoop Dogg has enlisted the vocal talents of his friend and star soccer player, David Beckham for his next single, according to British paper The People.

A source told the paper that both celebs have already agreed.

"Snoop thought it'd be a laugh and David is going to give it a real go," the source said. "They are huge names so the song's bound to be a hit - even if it's no good."
