Legendary Oakland rapper Too Short could be losing his local recording studio over an unpaid million dollar settlement stemming from a 1991 car crash.
According to The Oakland Tribune, Too Short was involved in a head-on collision in his hometown in 1991 which resulted in the death of a 22 year old passenger named James Ellerbee. The driver, Matthew Martin, suffered serious injuries.
Authorities claim Too Short had clipped a parked car about 400 feet away with his GMC pickup truck and was fleeing the scene of that accident moments before colliding with a Mercury Cougar which was carrying Ellerbee and Martin.
Too Short's GMC was uninsured and the rapper's blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
Ellerbee's parents would slap Too Short with a $17 million wrongful death suit but the rapper would agree in 1996 to pay $1 million to the Ellerbee's and Martin.
Lawyers representing Martin and the Ellerbee's claim that Too Short has avoided paying the full settlement and now owes more than $1.1 million including interest charges.
Alameda County Sheriff's Office have been ordered to seize equipment that Too Short installed in his local studio called UpAllNite as payment for the remainder of the settlement. The rapper opened the studio in May.
“It was very, very frustrating,” said Bobby Ellerbee, the father of James Ellerbee. “We were waiting and waiting and waiting for a payment that never came. He knows he owes.”
Too Short's lawyer, Phaedra Parks, claims that her client has not been able to come up with a lump sum and has paid $500,000 over the years. However, court documents obtained by The Oakland Tribune show that Too Short has only paid $282,000.
Roger Patton, Martin's lawyer, revealed to The Tribune that Too Short has made small payments to his client occasionally but has claimed he doesn’t have enough money to pay more.
Montie Day, a lawyer who was hired to collect the $718,000 balance, says he has pursued Too Short across three cities and two states. Day claims he has had to go after the rapper's assets and earnings.
“It's been like spinning my wheels,” explained Day.
The Sheriff's deputies have not seized Too Short's equipment from the studio because they have been unable to serve him a court order which will force the rapper to turn over his assets and appear in Superior Court next month.

The New York rappers claim that Bell profited from the compilation and owes them over a million dollars in back royalties.

Nas believes that one single person saved rap and prevented the genre becoming extinct. In a recent interview with Complex, Nas said that Kanye West was the man who had saved the rap genre. He also acknowledged Lil Wayne in the same interview.
"I think Kanye West saved rap. I think Lil Wayne is showing there is a future for all kinds of artists to continue doing this. You know, I love it," Nas said.
Nas also mentioned that there are three artists who still excite him and keep the love for hip hop burning; those three are the aforementioned Kanye, Outkast and Eminem.
Nas later discussed the controversial title for his new album, which was changed from Nigger to Untitled.
"I think the Hip Hop Is Dead and the N*gger album, they were for that time. ... People may think it's a controversial title, but it's really what I'm feeling," he told the mag. "I'm not going to make the title less controversial because it's going to offend people."
Nas' Untitled album will be released on July 15th.

Rap-A-Lot CEO James 'J ' Prince was reportedly cleared of felony assault charges yesterday (June 9).
Last year, Ronnie Bookman, the head of Houston’s Studio 7303, filed a $10 million lawsuit against Prince claiming that Rap-A-Lot honcho lured him into a gym to be attacked.
Bookman, who claimed he suffered fractured ribs, a broken nose and eye injury from the attack, accused Prince of jealousy and trying to eliminate competition.
According to KPRC Local 2, prosecutors dismissed the case against Prince on Wednesday because of inconsistencies in some of the witnesses' stories.
“The big problem in Houston is that for the last 20 years, Rap-A-Lot and James Prince have dominated the music scene,” said Prince's attorney Kent Shaffer. “So, you have up and coming artists (and) companies that want to compete with Rap-A-Lot and sometimes they'll sort of go (resort to) outlandish means to do it.”
Prince, who faced up to 10 years behind bars if he was convicted, revealed he was grateful that the case was dropped.
“I always felt like the [charges would be dropped] because I never done anything to anyone,” Prince said. “It's definitely a blessing to have that confirmed.”

A planned appearance by T.I. at an Atlanta nightclub yesterday (July 10) was reportedly cut short by an altercation.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, T.I. was scheduled to give a court approved appearance at the Luckie Food Lounge on Wednesday night but an incident occurred.
T.I.'s lawyer, Steve Sadow, claims the rapper was not a part of the incident and did not witness it.
He also said as soon as the incident began to happen, T.I. was swiftly taken out the club by his security and a court-ordered monitor.
Sadow did not reveal details about the incident. A police spokesperson did divulge that officers were called to the nightspot but they also did not reveal any details about the incident.
A manager for Luckie Food Lounge refused to comment or reveal what happened.

The Game recently responded to reports of him being involved in an altercation at a relative's funeral.
As reported earlier, Game's cousin (Robert "Kirky" Kirkwood) filed a police report claiming that the Compton rapper attacked him at his sister's funeral.
Kirkwood claimed that Game had agreed to pay half of the bill for his sister's funeral but stiffed him when it was time to pay up.
Kirkwood claimed that Game appeared unexpectedly at his sister's funeral and when he approached Game about the funding for the funeral outside the church, the rapper would punch him in the face.
The Game admitted to the altercation via an interview with Phoenix’s Power 98.3 claiming that Kirkwood was out for money and even planned an ambush.
“My family ain't never been like a real family, they fight at every funeral I’ve ever been to,” Game explained. “I don't wanna be around these people because I know how they are, they're cruel and now that I’m 'The Game', I already know what their motivation is, there motivation is money”
“Everybody was calling me asking for money, just asking me to pay for the whole funeral which I didn't have any problem doing but it's really not my obligation. My aunt should have had insurance, my cousin was sick for a long time,” Game continued. “So I felt like they were trying to play me out of 17 grand. So I talked to my mum and she said I should pay for the casket and the flowers but they rejecter that because they wanted me to pay for the whole thing”.
“Two days prior to the funeral, Kirky had already got his Crip homies for the funeral and he called my brother Fase and asked him if he would jump in they attacked me at they funeral. They had already plotted on me,” Game revealed. “So when I get there, I was thinking the funeral and the death of his sister would calm all that. So when I see [Kirky], I shake his hand and tell him I love him”
“After the funeral, [Kirky's] a pallbearer, he's supposed to be carrying my cousin to the hearse but he come up to me saying ‘Aye homie, 'What up with that cheese?',” Game continued. “He’s like, 'You supposed to be the big rapper, why you ain’t pay for the whole funeral?’”
“And then he's like 'you ain't my mother fucking family' and he pushed me,” Game said. “My reaction was just to do what anybody would do in that situation and the whole family jumped in and it was a royal rumble. I had no idea he would go to the police. I didn't bring no entourage or no weapons. More money, more problems. My family is now my worst enemy, I hate them more than I hate 50 [Cent].”
When asked if he really hated 50 Cent, Game would respond saying he doesn’t fully hate the G-Unit honcho and called him ‘unhappy’.
“I don’t genuinely hate 50 but I genuinely hate the things he has done to try to take food out of my kids’ mouths and try to render me helpless in hip hop,” Game explained. “I hate the things he's tried to do to myself, Young Buck and the same things he's gonna do to Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo if they go the other way”.
“50 is just an unhappy individual and no matter how much money he gets, no matter how much Vitamin water he drinks, how much steroids he takes, how much deodorant he sells, he is never gonna be happy,” Game stressed.
Wrapping up the interview, Game would be asked what he predicts will happen to G-Unit after projecting that Young Buck would leave the group. The Game would say: “I predict Lloyd Banks is gonna be the next leaving but Yayo will stick it out with his boyfriend forever”.

Over the weekend, the Chicago Sun-Times posted a story in which they allege that producer Kanye West was heading to anger management classes, put together by his own management team in attempt to combat his infamous temper tantrums.
Well, in true Kanye fashion, he lashed out at reports, dismissing them as simply rumors. He's not shy about expressing his feelings about certain situations since he started blogging on his site, and of course, he wasn't that happy about this one in particular.
In a blog item posted on his official site on Monday, his headline pretty much was a response in itself. It read, "No Anger Management ... If Anything I Need Anger Enhancement! LOL!!!"
In Kanye's short rant, he pretty much says that people shouldn't believe everything they read.
"Do y'all remember when people said my fiancé was pregnant???? ... I'm just using that as an example of how people make up stuff and everybody runs with it," he wrote. "I had my own family asking me about that. Now the media is saying I'm going to anger management something or 'nother. I have never had any conversations about anger management. If anything, I need anger enhancement!! lol! I get off the plane in Hawaii today and the world is saying my management team said blah blah blah ... SIIIIIIGGGHHHH! I told the media you can't make up lies about me because I have a media outlet myself."
The Kanye response came after Friday's article by the Sun-Times, in which an unnamed "insider" in Ye's his camp allegedly said they thought anger-management classes would improve West's own "personal psychological well-being and relationship with friends," as well as help him in business.
The source said that there are big endorsement deals on the table, but the companies interested are concerned with West's behavior, which sometimes people call diva-ish.
Wu-Tang Clan member U-God has reportedly asked New Jersey police for protection because he fears that people affiliated with the rap group are out for his life.
According to The Jersey Journal, U-God contacted police last month saying that he has been stalked by various men in various vehicles with different state license plates in the past two months.
U-God claims that the men have been following him from his Manhattan recording studio to his New Jersey home.
The rapper claims on one occasion while he was walking out of the garage of his building, two men got out of a car across the street and one of them gestured toward his waistband as though he had a weapon.
U-God also claims that his stalkers have also tried to follow him into his garage but have been unsuccessful. The rapper also claims sometimes the drivers roll down a window and nod at him.
U-God (born Lamont Hawkins) told police that he believes that the reason he is being followed and intimidated is because he filed an $180,000 lawsuit against Wu-Tang Music in January.
U-God's suit alleges that Wu Tang Music failed to pay him for his work on a Wu-Tang album, his tour participation and his cu t from a European record contract.
U-God has filed a suspicious persons report and no one has been charged. The rapper could not be contacted for comment.
(L note: I guess he forgot, Wu-tang clan aint nothing to F' wit!!! )
I never heard of Jen the pen before but she went in on this clip. Saying that Rita gives up the goods to road managers and such. wow. I wonder will she add a blogger to the list?

His installment in the campaign will begin running next month.
The Game is reportedly under investigation for attacking a relative at a funeral last weekend.
According to TMZ, Robert "Kirky" Kirkwood, who claims to be Game's cousin, alleges that the rapper volunteered to pay for half of his sister's funeral costs ($14,000) but made himself unavailable when it was time to pay up.
Kirkwood claims that Game would then appear unexpectedly at his sister's funeral last Saturday and would speak during the service.
Kirkwood claims that when he approached Game about the funding for the funeral outside the church, the rapper would punch him in the face.
Kirkwood has filed a police report against Game and authorities confirmed to TMZ that the altercation was about money and an investigation is underway.
Calls to Game and his representatives were not returned.

Whats funny is the real version of this video was one of my earliest post.
Hip-hop legend Ed Lover and former Bounce Squad member Uneek have teamed up for an historic event. The two have created a movement called FEM (Females Earning Money) consisting of some of the most heralded female lyricists around.
The group will consist of Babs Bunny, formerly of Da Band, former first lady of Death Row Records, Lady of Rage, Fight Klub spitter Lady Luck, and the former princess of the Rocafella dynasty, Amil.
The group was formed to show solidarity among female MC's.
"This is the perfect time to do a project like this", expressed co-Executive Producer of the FEM Movement, Ed Lover. "A lot of people have been wondering what happened to the female emcees, well these ladies are about to prove that they are here and they are better than ever! The FEM Movement is great for the future of hip-hop!"
Uneek, a former female MC who now manages Lady Luck and Babs saw this as an opportunity to for a female super group and to show the world that female MC's can work together.
"Females don't come together enough and we need to show unity and cohesiveness. Men do it all the time and now it's our time to stand up, stand together and make som e money", said Uneek of why she decided to create FEM. "FEM gives these talented women an opportunity to come together as a movement to show the power that we have when we work as a team, while still allowing each member to maintain their solo emcee status".
All parties involved are excited at the possibilities that being in this group can bring.
"Women seem to have a hard time working together, but we are about to change that and make history", said Lady Luck.
"I'm excited about the project. Each one of us brings something great and different to the table and I'm ready to go in!," said Babs " We are all very talented and we have all worked with major artists in the industry, Rage with Dr. Dre and Snoop, Amil with Jay-Z, Luck with Def Jam and EPMD and myself with Diddy. None of us are amateurs, but at the same time we all still have something to prove."
Currently the FEM artists are in the studio working on a mixtape hosted by DJ Doo Wop. Rah Digga, as well as other female emcees to be announced will be featured on the mixtape. Plans for a tour and album are also in the works.
