Foxy Brown and Lil’ Kim are being sued over advance money for books that were never developed.
According to New York Newsday, the Brooklyn emcees were both paid advances by Simon & Schuster, Inc. for books expected to have already hit shelves. Foxy was allegedly given $75,000 in ’05 for an exclusive autobiography titled Broken Silence that was scheduled for completion by Feb 2006. Kim was handed $40,000 in ’03 for a novel due by June ’04.
Although they were legally required to complete the books, both rap vixens served jail time shortly after signing their deals. Kim served a year in prison back in ’05 for lying about her knowledge of a shooting while Foxy completed a bid last year for a probation violation.
Brown’s attorney, Laura Dilimetin, and Kim’s attorney, L. Londell McMillan, were unavailable for comment at press time.
Lil Wayne has reportedly been sued by a musical publishing company for using a Rolling Stones song without permission.
According to Reuters, Abkco Music Inc. claims that Lil Wayne sampled Rolling Stones' song "Play With Fire" without permission and used it on his song “Play With Fire” which is featured on Tha Carter III.
Abkco owns the rights to the "Play With Fire". They claim Lil Wayne’s version of “Play With Fire” uses "explicit, sexist and offensive language" and causes the public to believe that their company and the Rolling Stones approved the rapper’s version.
Abkco’s lawsuit was filed in Manhattan federal court July 24 and seeks unspecified damages.
Lil Wayne’s representatives could not be reached for comment.
The recently leaked Game song featuring Lil Wayne titled "My Life" [click to listen] is already making waves on the internet. But it is not because of the obvious two top tier emcees on the song. The issue at hand is the version that leaked onto the net with Game spitting the following lines:
"You see them 24’s spinning, I earned ‘em/and all the pictures of me and Em, I burned ‘em/ so there ain’t no proof that I ever walked through 8 Mile/and since there’s no Proof, I’ll never walk through 8 Mile"
Moments after the version leaked and began to spread, another version of the song - which is the album version according to an Interscope representative - hit the net without the controversial lines. Along with that came a statement from Game clearing up the lyrics.
"When I originally wrote the song 'My Life' I was trying to think back on events that affected my life and how they changed me," Game says. "When I first got signed to Aftermath and G-Unit I was exposed to so many different people from Dre to Em to 50 to Proof. I always identified with Proof. We were always cool and he would reach out to me when ever I was going through something."
Game goes on to explain how the song was not meant to be offensive by any means and was clearly taken out of context.
"I remember when Proof died vividly and now every time I think about going to Detroit I get depressed. That is what I was trying to say in that verse and the more I looked at I realized that people would take it the wrong way…the way they are taking it now that it leaked. So I decided to change it so that this bullshit wouldn't happen and now it's happened anyway," he continued.
In the end, Game apologizes for that version of the song even being heard by the masses.
"For the record, this is not the version on my album, this is not the version that radio will get and this is not the version that I just shot the video to. Furthermore, I apologize to anyone who took this the wrong way as that was never my intention."
Rumors of a possible marriage in the making between Diddy and his Bad Boy signee Cassie have been shaken-off by the rap mogul’s rep.
According to People, a representative for Diddy denied all allegations that the 38 year-old hip-hop icon was eyeing the 21 year-old songstress to be his wife.
“Contrary to tabloid reports, there is no engagement,” the rep told People. “This was a complete fabrication.”
As previously reported, rumors began to circulate when close friends of Diddy reported him planning a low-key wedding with Cassie. There was no date scheduled but he allegedly told insiders in early June.

Jermaine Dupri and Def Jam records have now launched the official Tag Records website. Formerly limited to a MySpace page, the official TAG Records site includes detailed information on their very first artist Q including his frist track "I Am Him."
Following the steps of recent hip-hop website trends, the TAG Records site also includes a social networking aspect and of course plenty of plenty of behind the scenes videos of Jermaine Dupri.
Still no word on when Q's debut album will release.
50 Cent has reportedly sued Taco Bell for using his name in an advertising campaign without permission.
Last month, Taco Bell released a letter to the press asking 50 Cent to endorse its 'Why Pay More Value Menu' by changing his name to "79 Cent," "89 Cent" or "99 Cent".
50 Cent's lawsuit, which was filed in a Manhattan court today, claims that Taco Bell released the letter to the press before sending it to 50 Cent and fooled consumers into thinking that the rapper had agreed to endorse the fast food chain.
The lawsuit claims that Taco Bell intentionally used 50 Cent's name to attract attention and publicity to its campaign without compensating him.
“Simply put, Taco Bell knew that it would likely have had to pay [50 Cent] a multi-million-dollar fee to get his endorsement, even if he had agreed to do it - which is in doubt,” the lawsuit said. “Rather than face rejection or pay fair value, Taco Bell chose to steal his endorsement and to enjoy all the publicity of being associated with a mega-star while bearing none of the costs.”
The lawsuit also claims that the letter damaged 50 Cent's reputation by associating him with "pedestrian" rap themed video games on Taco Bell's website. The lawsuit also said 50 Cent has been criticized on blogs for “selling out" because consumers believed he had endorsed Taco Bell as a result of the letter.
50 Cent is seeking more than $1 million in damages.
Yum! Brands, the parent company of Taco Bell, declined to comment on the lawsuit.
VH1 announced today it will have three new original series premiering Monday, August 4. I Want To Work For Diddy, tracks 13 applicants as they compete to work for the music mogul. They'll be challenged emotionally, physically and mentally to earn the "privilege" of being Diddy's minion.
As some might recall, Diddy held a world-wide YouTube hunt for his next assistant, who was then announced on The Oprah Winfrey Show months ago. But apparently with Diddy's growing success comes a growing need for assistance. Something tells us to stay tuned for many marathon hikes for cheesecake...
New York Goes To Hollywood" is the latest installment from reality-show star Tiffany "New York" Pollard from the hit Vh1 series I Love New York (the spin-off of Flavor Flav's Flavor of Love). This time around, since finding love with Tailor Made on her last show, New York is ready to take the next step of trying her hand at Hollywood stardom. Follow her as she goes through the trials and tribulations of being a little fish in a big pond.
Rounding out the new Monday night line-up is Luke's Parental Advisory. One of Hip Hop's original bad boys (and former member of 2 Live Crew) , Luther "Luke" Campbell made his mark by challenging America's judicial system in terms what is classified as "obscenity" versus freedom of artistic expression with 2 Live Crew's 1989 hit album As Nasty As They Wanna Be. Now, in an ironic twist of fate, Luke is getting a taste of his own medicine as he tries to protect his two children from the often lewd media images of today, just as some parents tried to shield their children from the likes of 2 Live Crew. Watch as Luke, now better known for his involvement in the porn industry than Hip Hop music, tries to separate his raunchy adult entertainment business from his family life.
Over the past few years it seems as if Vh1 has continuously reached out to provide programming to the Hip Hop generation, from the Hip Hop Honors (which will debut its fifth edition on October 7th this year), to the various documentaries on Hip Hop culture and artists, and now with their new Monday night Line-up of reality shows featuring Diddy and Luke.
A Vh1 representative acknowledges this shift in programming, "About five years ago, Vh1 expanded its focus to include all facets of pop culture in addition to music. Hip Hop now dominates pop culture, influencing everything from music, to film, to television and fashion. As the music and pop culture authority for adults, Hip Hop now has a natural home at Vh1."
Vh1.com will sneak peek the first episode of each new series on Monday, July 28- One week before the on-air premiere.

Dr. Dre has finally given his long-awaited Detox album some life by speaking on its possible release date and the reason behind its nine year delay.
In an in-depth discussion with USA Today, the hitmaker revealed his own anticipation for his third solo release and confidence in its overall appeal to fans. He also hopes to have it come out before 2009.
“I’m just now—over the last couple of months—starting to feel that it’s going to be right and it’s something I can be proud of, and everybody is going to love it,” Dre said. “In a perfect world, I’m shooting for a November or December release.”
Despite having to follow-up to his critically acclaimed albums The Chronic and The Chronic 2001, Dre confessed to never planning on making instant classics, but allowing the music to speak for itself.
“I’ve never set out to do that,” he said. “I just make the music feel the way I want it to feel and I don’t put it out until I’m totally happy with it. Then it does what it does.”
While details are still scarce on what the album will have to offer, the Aftermath head promised “an entirely new thing going with the drums that’s incredible” along with guest appearances from hip-hop heavy weights Nas, Jay-Z, and Lil’ Wayne.
After Detox drops, Dre plans to do the regular promo before finally retiring to the studio to focus solely on producing. “I’m going to put this record out, promote it, tour and then become a hermit,” he revealed.
“I’m going to stay in the studio and produce.”

Love him or hate him, T-Pain is a hard working man in the music business. He's already got a new album coming out this year titled Thr33 Ringz. He's also been featured on more than a few singles this year with a variety of artists in the rap and R&B worlds and he's already building buzz for the upcoming T-Wayne collaboration with Lil Wayne.
"T-Wayne is an entity that's just gonna take over a side of the game," Pain told MTV recently. "It's two artists that done collaborated with every artist in the industry except each other. Being that we getting together, this T-Wayne movement is getting crazy."
He went on to explain that even though they both have incredibly busy schedules, they are taking time to make sure the T-Wayne album begins taking shape as they continue recording away from one another.
"He's sending me blank tracks, I'm sending him blank tracks. He's sending me tracks with hooks, I'm sending him tracks with hooks. It's just our hectic schedules are keeping us from recording. ... But we both have studios on the bus. So we take that tour bus anywhere we go...it's a done deal."
Fans of the two or those anticipating the collab album will not really have to wait for work from the pair. They have already worked together on Wayne's Tha Carter III and they have a single coming out for Thr33 Ringz. Pain spoke on their most recent duet, the first official single off of his album, a track called "Can't Believe It."
"'Can't Believe It,' I just wanted to simplify things. Basically I got a lot of stuff on my albums that's not that simple. I'm not getting away from the simplicity of things, it's just basically a way to calm things down. Then I put Wayne on it and he keeps murdering tracks I'm sending him. It's just another world, it's unexplainable."

Paul Wall has recently created a new product called Tattoo Detox, an all-natural mineral-based liquid product, aimed about combating dangerous lead based inks used for tattoos.
The rapper/jeweler's father, Michael, is a long time user of alternative health methods, and through Michael's research into toxicity, he discovered that tattoo ink is not regulated, so there are thousands of formulas that include lead, arsenic, beryllium, cobalt, nickel and other heavy metal toxins.
Both Paul and his father have developed a heavy metal detoxifier based on an ancient volcanic mineral called Clinoptilolite. Their research resulted in the creation of Tattoo Detox, a specially formulated detoxifier that is taken orally and cleanses the blood of heavy metals while leaving tattoos in perfect condition.
The father/son team plan to bring the product to the millions of tattoo enthusiasts in the U.S.
"I love my tattoos, but I was really upset to find out tattoo ink contains toxic metals," said Paul Wall. "Fortunately I found Tattoo Detox, and it's all good now. I can get as many tats as I want and a few drops of Tattoo Detox a day keeps me feeling great."
Paul has launched TattooDetox.com, which has links to articles about tattoo ink toxicity, as well as extensive information on their new product.
"The goal is to educate about the risks of tattoo inks while providing a product that allows tattoo enthusiasts to continue their lifestyle without giving up their health," says Paul's father, Michael.
Kim Osorio was the editor-in-cheif during the most tumultous time, in the history of The Source Magazine. Now three years removed, and a lawsuit that saw her win 7.5 million dollars for sexual harassment, gender discrimination, defamation, rataliatory discharge, and maintaining a hostile work environment, Ms. Kim Osorio is back in the media ready to tell it all with her new tell all book titled "Straight From The Source."
After being involved with the source during the period in which the entire magazine almost folded, Osorio will use this book to finally speak on what happened from her point of view.
“People see women writing memoirs and immediately criticize them for wanting to tell their story. I am a writer first, so telling stories has always been my life, I just decided after everything I had gone through, that it was time to tell my own, especially since others have tried to tell it for me. I figured if people were going to speculate, then I may as well get it out there, and tell it the way it should be told."
"Straight From The Source" is scheduled to hit bookshelves on September 9th of this year.

Bay Area rapper Keak Da Sneak was reportedly arrested last Thursday (July 10) and booked on four felony charges.
According to reports, the pioneering hyphy rapper was arrested on firearm charges and resisting arrest, just hours after attending a funeral in Oakland, California.
Keak was held in custody over the weekend for an outstanding warrant and appeared before the judge on Monday (July 14). He is scheduled to post bail and be released within the next.

A Las Vegas jury found Bay Area rapper Mac Minister guilty in the slaying of Kansas City rapper Fat Tone and his friend Jermaine "Cowboy" Akins.
As reported earlier, authorities claimed Fat Tone and Akins were last seen leaving a Las Vegas hotel with Mac Minister in May 2005 and were later found shot dead at a construction site by a security guard.
Authorities claim Mac Minister (born Andre Dow) killed Fat Tone in retaliation for the murder of Bay Area rapper Mac Dre.
Mac Dre was shot and killed in a 2004 drive by shooting in Kansas City and Fat Tone was considered a person of interest in the murder but never a suspect.
According to The Las Vegas Review Journal, Mac Minister was convicted Monday of first-degree murder and now faces life in prison.
Jason Mathis, an associate of Mac Minister, has also been implicated in the slayings and is currently awaiting trial.

T.I. is back with a highly anticipated new LP, Paper Trail. With the new LP dropping in early September, T.I. recently spoke on what people can expect from the album and how intense the making of the LP was. After going through his fair share of tribulations and run ins with the law, T.I. sat down to make what he calls "me at my best."
“I just want everyone to know that it’s coming out and that I’m going to answer a lot of questions in the music," he said via press release. "It’s intense and insightful; it’s gonna shake up the game and it’s me at my best.”
“No Matter What,” is already out and has garnered some buzz and acclaim for its personal nature. That track is seen as a "street record" and even though it has a video to go along with it, is not considered to be this album's first official single. For that, T.I. turned to "Whatever You Like." Swizz Beatz, DJ Toomp and Drumma Boy all add to the instrumentation of the album.
That's not all. Fans may recall T.I. had a promising acting career before he was arrested. He starred alongside Denzel Washington in the critically acclaimed and commercially successful American Gangster and has acted as a star in other films such as ATL. Now, he will be in a new film, titled Bone Deep.
According to the Internet Movie Database, Bone Deep is a film about bank robbers scheduled to be out in 2009 that already features Matt Dillon and Chris Brown. Aside from this role, expect to see T.I. hit the silver screen as he will have a cameo appearance on Entourage and he will have his very own MTV reality show that is said to be "inspirational" according to his release. It will be focusing on his life on parole.
T.I.'s Paper Trail is scheduled to drop September 9.
Rick Ross denied being a corrections officer in his past, but TheSmokingGun.com uncovered documents that verified claims that the Miami rapper was in fact a law officer.
Pictures surfaced online of Ross in a officer’s uniform, but in a video interview he denied the authenticity of the image. Ross said it was his head, however, the uniformed body was doctored and attached to his face.
“If this shit was real, don’t you think they would have more specifics, like dates and everything,” Ross responded.
TheSmokingGun.com revealed plenty of specifics.
A department of corrections spokesperson supplied the document-digging Website with the information.
Ross has not commented on the report as of press time.
