Jay-Z Dedicates '99 Problems' To McCain, Palin At Show

Jay-Z joined DJ AM Wednesday (Oct. 15) night for the re-opening of the Hollywood Palladium, less than a month after DJ AM and Travis Barker survived a plane crash that wounded them and killed four others.

Jay-Z and AM performed for nearly two hours, backed by brass and rhythm sections dressed in tuxedos. The first show AM has done since the crash went smoothly, as the deejay didn't miss a step, even rapping with Hov from behind the turntables.

According to MTV News, Jay decided to make it an evening of shout outs. Some were expected, as Jay yelled to the audience "make some noise for DJ AM" three separate times in the concert.

But it was when he dedicated "99 Problems" to John McCain and a "homegirl" described not by name, but as "the one who says 'You betcha.' "

"I'm gonna get in trouble for this," joked Jay onstage, "but fuck it, this is freedom of speech."

Another highlight of the event was T.I., who joined Hov on stage to perform their verses from "Swagger Like Us." T.I.'s Paper Trail is currently the top-selling album in the country.

Eminem Talks New Book, Reveals Details About New Album

Eminem came out of the bat cave on Wednesday night (October 15) to celebrate the release of his upcoming book, titled The Way I Am. During the evening, Em granted DJ Kay Slay and Angela Yee an interview on Shade 45, discussing some of his ideas behind the book.

According to the book's description, via Amazon, he shares his private thoughts on everything from his inner struggles, to the trials of being famous, to his love for his daughter, Hailie, creating a book that is every bit as raw and uncensored.

Em and 50 also explained that it will showcase Em's unique style of writing lyrics, a measure the rapper uses to disguise his song ideas if he ever loses his notebook.

"The Way I Am is really interesting because of the way Em actually writes his lyrics," 50 explained on Shade 45. "[It's] in different areas and pieces, and you won't understand it. It's like a riddle. That's real emcee sh** right there. If people actually found it, they would actually know, said 50...

"There's a couple reasons I do that," Em added. "One is obviously because I don't want people looking at my sh**, if I set it down somewhere or I lose it. They won't be able to tell what's going on, but I will know what's going on. It's also like random thoughts. You talked about the different color ink and all that ... that's because I grab the first pen I can find when I get a thought in my head and write it down right then and there because I'll forget it forever if I don't."

The Way I Am is slated to hit bookstores October 21.

In addition to talking about his book, Eminem also revealed new info about his long-awaited new album, including its title.

"There's a lot of album titles that's floating around out there that's like fake album titles, bullsh** album titles. I was just gonna tell everybody the real title of my album is coming out, it's called Relapse," Slim revealed.

"The three-headed monster returns," 50 added. "It's Before I Self Destruct, Relapse then Detox ... [Eminem] never really loses representation because I'm still out and about. I think people forget because of the success I've been having with my joint-venture with G-Unit, as a record company, that I'm signed to Eminem's company Shady/Aftermath. The real reality is as long as you see 50 Cent functioning and active out there, you're actually looking at a reflection of Eminem. I wouldn't exist if he didn't decide to make the deal happen. Ebony and ivory."

Em also said that so far, this album is being produced almost entirely by Dr. Dre, while he focuses strictly on the writing portion.

"The majority of it is produced by Dre this time," said Em. "I let him kinda take the driver's seat because I wanted to kinda just be able to ... not having to worry about making my own beats and concentrating on that, worrying about how loud a snare was. I wanted to be able to just write it. That's the luxury you get when you're with Dre because I can just go in there and I can write whatever, at my own pace, however I wanna do it."

Aside from Dre, currently the only guest appearance on Em's new album is 50 Cent, and vice versa for 50's upcoming album. However, both rappers said they are still in the recording process.

The Shady / Aftermath / G-Unit releases are as follows: Before I Self Destruct hits stores December 9th, while Em's album is expected to follow shortly after, with Dre's Detox coming right behind that. No release dates have been set for Em and Dre's respective albums.

T.I. Responds To Jim Jones

T.I. has responded to recent comments made by Jim Jones.

Jones, who wasn't too pleased with not being included on T.I.'s hit single Swagger Like Us, which featured Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne, expressed his distaste with T.I. earlier this month.

"I don’t feel like [T.I.] possesses any swag. Not like that. It’s fabricated. They’re watching other people, then they try and do it. You know people that dress like T.I.? You know people that go out and say let me get a T.I. outfit or do you know people who say “yo, you’re looking like Jim Jones?” Jones said during an interview with Complex Magazine.

During another interview, Jones then clarified his remarks claiming his earlier statement was taken the wrong way.

"People took it the wrong way. I wasn’t really deliberately doing nothing to knock T.I. I was just saying what I felt regarding swagger and who sets the precedent for it. I know for sure that people have said, "Yo, you looking like Jim Jones. I’m trying to get that 'Jim Jones' look." But I haven’t heard people saying you’re looking like T.I. or whoever. Where I’m from, niggas don’t run to go look like no Kanye. I don’t hear niggas in the ‘hood like I need to get that jacket Jay had on."

In a recent interview with Rhapsody, when asked about the comments, T.I. says he has no reply until he hears them from Jones himself.

"I still haven’t saw it with my own eyes. I’ve only heard it from people who asked me about it. They ask me about something I have no knowledge of. Just as I said with the 50 Cent comment, I can’t deal with it based off of what I see or read. I have to ask this person. I have to hear what this person says out of his own mouth. Because things can be taken out of context so much. You definitely don’t wanna jump to conclusions one way or the next. So, I would definitely have to hear it with my own. I just spoke to Juelz a couple weeks ago about doing another record together [for his album]. So, we’ll see each other. That’s my thing about it. I saw Jim not too long ago, about two or three weeks ago at BET for 106 and Park’s 100th episode or something they were doing. We spoke and everything was cool. I’m sure we’ll see each other soon and have a chance to speak on it. But even from what I heard, it doesn’t sound like much. It’s always gonna be somebody who didn’t get to get on it or who wished they were on it or felt like they should’ve been on it. I’m not worried. I’m moving forward."

Brian "Baby" Williams Hit With 275k Lawsuit

More legal troubles are on the horizon for rapper Brian "Baby" Williams. Earlier this year the rapper and CEO of Cash Money Records was slammed with a copyright infringement lawsuit after allegedly releasing various albums including projects by Lil Wayne, containing copyrighted material that was used without licensing agreements.

Now, Williams, who recently handed a million dollars in cash over to Lil Wayne as a birthday present, has been hit with another lawsuit by an L.A. based promoter accusing him of taking $275,000.

The lawsuit alleges Williams has continuously failed to put on a Lil' Wayne concert in Miami by coming up with preposterous excuses.

According to TMZ, the suit filed in L.A.'s Superior Court, alleges that Williams even backed out of one of the shows because "the weather in MIAMI was too cold."

No statements have been released by Williams or his camp regarding the situation.

Jim Jones: "Nas Was Never On My Level," Talks Cam Ron, T.I.

Jim Jones has been no stranger to controversy as of late. Last week, the Diplomat had some choice words for rappers T.I. and Jay-Z, this week, he takes aim at Jay's Queensbridge counter part, Nas.

In a recent interview with Rhapsody, Jones shot down any chances of reconciliation with Nas after beefing with the rapper on behalf of former friend, Cam' Ron.

"Fuck Nas. I don’t give a fuck about Nas. He’s a rapper that just lost his pizazz. When I was in high school, he was the sh*t. He was the n*gg* that got us hyped. “New York State of Mind,” Illmatic and all of that" said Jones.

"I was never cool with him. I seen Nas a few months ago in L.A. with Dame. We was staying in this hotel right above the Ferrari dealership. Dame seen him and was talking to him. I was laying back on a couch laughing. He didn’t know what to do. I was looking dead at him. [Laughs.] And then Dame was like, “You know Jim?” He started [stammering], “Ah? Ah?” Dame is just burnt out. He not thinking about none of that frivolous [beef] sh*t. Me neither, for the most part. Nas was never on my level ever. Ever."

When asked whether he regrets the situation with Cam, Jones retorted
"there’s never no regrets. As you get older, you lose friends. But you make new rapports and it’s all about the money and taking care of your family. It was a good friendship though."

Jones also clarifies his comments regarding T.I. saying people took it the wrong way.

"People took it the wrong way. I wasn’t really deliberately doing nothing to knock T.I. I was just saying what I felt regarding swagger and who sets the precedent for it. I know for sure that people have said, "Yo, you looking like Jim Jones. I’m trying to get that 'Jim Jones' look." But I haven’t heard people saying you’re looking like T.I. or whoever. Fabolous Preps 'Loso's Way' Hitting Stores February 09

Following in the footsteps of fellow Brooklyn MC Jay-Z, Grammy nominated rapper Fabolous is gearing up for the release of his very own concept album entitled "Loso's Way."

"Loso's Way" will be Fab's fifth studio album and will pay homage to Al Pacino's cult classic, "Carlito's Way."

The film follows Al Pacino as the lead character, Carlito Brigante, a smooth talking hustler and his struggles after prison trying to live a law abiding life.

"I think we had some similarities," Fab says. "Carlito was a street dude trying to make the transition from the streets to something better. That's where I felt like I was at in my point in my life of becoming a hip-hop artist and making that transition from the streets to a hip-hip artist."

Fab has tapped numerous producers for the project including Dj Toomp and Jermaine Dupri.

"I told them the situation of the album and the theme everybody played into that," Fabolous explained. "Some people went back and watched the movie. They were on page with me. They knew where I was going. It wasn't people just coming in there and just playing some beat CDs and you pick a beat."

Rumored guest appearances on the album are Jadakiss, Kanye West, Ne-Yo, 50 Cent, Paul Cain, Cassidy, Red Cafe, Asia Cruise, Joe Budden and Freck Billionaire.

Fab also released a mixtape under the same name summer of 2007.

"Loso's Way", the album, will be hitting stores during the first week of February 2009.

DJ Quik: Dr. Dre Has 400 Tracks For “Detox,” Snoop And Dre Working Together Again

In a recent interview with, Compton legend and record producer DJ Quik revealed that he has been spending time with the legendary Dr. Dre.

“Nobody gets to say this, I’m gonna snitch. The man is getting piano lessons from Burt Bacharach and he’s reinterpreting [Frederic] Chopin symphony stuff. It’s crazy, he’s lost his mind. He’s got like 400 records. As a matter of a fact, I was there for like four hours, and I think I only heard maybe 60 songs. This man’s got like six or seven Detox records if he wants, it’s just crazy,” Quik told

“Another cool thing too that some of y’all don’t know, Snoop is now back in the studio with Dr. Dre. It’s about too crazy!”

Aside from working on various projects over the last several years, Quik also mentioned that he just recently finished working on a “Sliver” remix for pop rock band Maroon 5.

While Detox was originally slated for release in 2004, it is rumored that the album will be released before the end of the year.

J.R. Rotem, RZA, Scott Storch and Warren G, as well as others, are all said to be contributing to the new album.

New “Makaveli” Album In 2009?

While nothing has been confirmed, it has been reported that a new album from the late Tupac Shakur, under the alias Makaveli, will be released by the end of this year.

The album, The Lost Scriptures, will be released by the new owner of Death Row Records.

The owner will be given a list of thirty-five unreleased tracks, thirteen of which will be released on the new album, while the remaining tracks will be sent back to Amaru.

The song list for the album can be viewed

(L note: I got mixed feeling about this. As a confessed Pac-a-holic I can say i cant wait to hear more new Makaveli, but damn cant we let the big homie rest in peace? I mean the last 2 Tupac albums were garbage, i got them for free and i didn't even want them. from the production to the fact that most of the verses we've heard before. It was just in my eyes a way to make money of his legacy. Now with the prospect of a new album before the end of the year, also its 35 unreleased tracks, so that's about 2 maybe 3 albums of more Pac. I don't think the people controlling this even care about 'Pac's legacy. Madame Shakur, I implore you please stop this nonsense, let 'Pac rest in peace.)

Just Blaze And Fat Joe Dispel Rumors Of New Jay-Z Diss

Folks have been in a frenzy over the new Jay-Z and Uncle Murda track. That's due mostly to a Fat Joe diss that Jay throws on the track. In his feature, Jigga allegedly throws a few jabs at DJ Khaled and the Terror Squad. Now, Fat Joe is speaking on the subject, too.

The track in question is "He Asked For It" and it features S. Carter using a Rakim-inspired flow to take his shots at the T.S.

“Gangsta, Gangsta, how ya'll wanna do this? I clap niggas down for yappin’ all foolish, ain’t no stopping this Roc-A-Fella movement. The name is Jay Guevara, homie, who are you? And, your off-beat deejay, if anything he play sound familiar? I’ll wait till Pharrell say, 'Play ‘em.' Now I’ma have to diss you, Joe. You can get a smack for that. Matter fact, the gats will blow….Your toy squad will get squashed, Boy–yard dee, ya'll be lost in the sauce partly because ya'll boss ain’t a leader. He’s a follower. No, I’m not coppin’ ya album or your single, you likely to go copper…”

But, it may be just a case of misunderstanding. Just Blaze recently blogged about the track and dispelled rumors that it is a new verse by Jay.

“So for some reason people think this “new” Jay/Uncle Murda thing is a Fat Joe/Khaled diss. It’s not. It’s also like 8,000 years old and somehow dude got his hands on it and put a verse on it. Now that I recall, it’s Blueprint 2 era..I was going to use this verse for the S.Carter Remix CD but we couldn’t get the Pro Tools in time. Don’t fall for the okeydoke.”

Now, Fat Joe has released his own statement on the matter, according to Miss Info.

“I have no beef whatsoever with Jay-Z. In fact, we share a common goal…helping to get Barack Obama elected on November 4th,” he said.
