"This Is Jim Jones" is the name of the upcoming documentary on Harlem rapper Jim Jones. The movie will be produced by Damon Dash. It focuses on how Jones went from being the #2 man behind Cam'ron to rising to the top of the heap on his own.
The project is due May 12, and features a number of hip-hop luminaries like Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex and Angie Martinez, DJ Clark Kent, Russell Simmons and others speaking about Jones' life and career.
Reflecting on the pas, Jones recalls telling Cam'ron that "it was part of the plan for a separation...Not sure why. ... But also part of the plan is to get back. I'm just waiting for the get back [now]." Dash also weighs in on the topic by expressing his frustration with it and also pointing to his own break from Jay-Z as a reason the Dips shouldn't have had such a rift.
The film stretches out over 10 chapters, following Jones from childhood through the formation of Dipset to their time at Roc-A-Fella.
In the final chapter, titled "Purification," Jones opens up about his father, who died due to an illness related to HIV/AIDS. The rapper chooses his words carefully and expresses remorse over the lack of time he shared with his father.

“This record is quintessential Troy. It’s hardcore, chaotic and that’s the Pastor Troy I love,” SMC VP of A&R Will Bronson. “We’re just furthering what we did with Tool Musiq.”
The lead single from the album will be titled “I Want War”, and the album is due to hit stores on the 14th of April 2009.

A New Orleans judge has ordered Lil Wayne to turn over the financial records for The Carter III to a pop singer who has accused the rapper of copyright infringement.
Karma-Ann Swanepoel sued Lil Wayne last year claiming that the rapper sampled her song "Once” and used it on his song “I Feel like Dying”.
Swanepoel claims that Lil Wayne and his record label initially tried to work out a deal to use her song but despite the fact that she refused, Lil Wayne continued to perform the song on tour and made it available on YouTube and other websites.
Judge Daniel Knowles III ruled Wednesday (March 18) that Swanepoel is entitled to view Tha Carter III's financial records.
Tha Carter III, which was released last year, has sold over 3,000,000 copies thus far.

Kanye West is reportedly planning to release his own line of denim jeans.
According to The UK Mirror, during Kanye's recent visit to Britain, the rapper had a meeting with the heads of the popular Religion Clothing line to get some tips.
"He really loves British style - it’s captured his imagination. And he wanted to tap into the source to give him some ideas," an insider told The UK Mirror.
“Religion has developed as a trendy label among celebs and Kate Moss and Sarah Harding are big fans of the line. Kanye wants his product to have the same level of prestige,” the source added. “He doesn’t want his clothes to just have his name on; he wants to develop them into a credible range."
Kanye already has two shoe lines with Nike and Louis Vuitton and is planning to launch his Pastelle clothing line in the coming months.
Jay-Z's New Jersey Nets are hoping to call the rapper’s hometown of Brooklyn, New York their new home by 2011.
Jay-Z joined forces with real estate developer Bruce Ratner and several other partners to purchase the Nets franchise in 2004 for $300 million.
The Brooklyn rapper and his partners hoped to be in Brooklyn by 2009 but were met with various setbacks including the ongoing economic crisis and a domain lawsuit.
Brett Yormark, the Nets chief executive officer, recently told Bloomberg Television that they see themselves overcoming economic concerns and legal opposition and will be moving into their planned $1 billion arena for the 2011-2012 season.
"It will happen,” Yormark said. “We’ll be there for the 2011-2012 season. We’ve pre-sold 20 per cent of our suites. We’ve got eight of our 14 founding partnerships already completely signed. Next week, we’ll announce our ninth.”
“We feel very confident about the financing. We feel very confident about just the project in general, and once we get through this final piece of litigation, we’ll be in the accelerated mode to break ground and get ready to open,” he added.
The Nets move to Brooklyn would make them the first major professional sports team to play their games in Brooklyn since the departure of the Dodgers to Los Angeles in 1958.
Following in Eminem’s footsteps, 50 Cent will be releasing two albums in 2009.
The rapper made the announcement to MTV News yesterday (March 16) saying he will release his eagerly awaited Before I Self Destruct album in June after Eminem drops Relapse on May 19th
Eminem is expected to drop Relapse II in the second half of 2009 and 50 Cent will follow that release with another album.
A video for Eminem’s latest single, “Crack A Bottle”, which features 50 Cent and Dr. Dre, is expected to hit music video outlets soon.
In related news, 50 Cent will be joining rock group Fall Out Boy for five dates on their upcoming tour which launches next month. Check the group’s website for their itinerary.
Detroit police are standing by their story that Trick Trick was shot at a local nightclub last night (March 16) despite the rapper's denials.
Reports surfaced early Monday morning that Trick Trick was one of two men who was shot at the Esko Lounge Sunday night.
The reports claimed that Trick Trick was shot in the thigh and was expected to recover.
Hours later, Trick Trick would appear on Detroit's WKQI-FM (95.5) claiming that he was at home and denied being shot.
"I'm at home. I ain't left this house since Saturday," the rapper said.
Despite his denials, Detroit police confirmed to The Detroit Free Press that Trick Trick was shot last night and was treated at a local hospital.
They claim they questioned Trick Trick (born Christian Mathis) about the shooting and his denials are untrue.
"We did speak to this individual," said Sgt. Eren Stephens Bell . "His musical performance name is Trick Trick. I'm confirming he's a local rapper."
The identity of the other man who was shot was not revealed.
Afeni Shakur, the mother of late rapper Tupac Shakur, will be filing a $10 million countersuit against film production company Morgan Creek yesterday (March 16).
Morgan Creek filed a lawsuit against Afeni and Amaru Entertainment in February claiming that they backed out of an agreement to sell Tupac's life rights for a film adaptation.
Afeni and Amaru Entertainment have denied Morgan Creek's accusations and according to The Hollywood Reporter, they will be filing their countersuit Monday morning.
Afeni and Amaru claim that Morgan Creek's lawsuit is an attempt to force Afeni to hand over Tupac's movie rights. They also claim that Morgan Creek has sabotaged their attempts to negotiate with other film studios.
"Instead of negotiating in good faith with (Amaru), they sought to obtain the rights by concocting a nonexistent 'agreement' and engaging in heavy-handed threats, coercion and intimidation to interfere with and ultimately destroy the film project," said Afeni and Amaru Entertainment in the countersuit.
Aside from the $10 million, Afeni and Amaru Enter tainment want the court to declare there was never a deal with Morgan Creek.
Representatives for Morgan Creek declined to comment.

The Dream and Kanye West want to record a full album together, the R&B singer says. West appears on Dream's "Walking on the Moon," the probable third single from the singer/songwriter's just-released album Love vs. Money.
"Everybody is trying to talk us into it," Dream said of his and West's friends and business associates. "It was first thought of by me. I was in Miami at the time, and I gave Kanye a call and said, 'The best thing would be for me and you to do an album.' I feel he's at a certain place in hip-hop, I'm at a certain place in R&B, and lyrically, I'm just in a certain place in my lifetime. Let's take the best of both worlds and put it on a CD and try to make something we can sell to the consumers. He says he's with it. We're gonna try to make it happen. I told him, 'Let me lift my profile up a little bit.' "
Reps for West declined to comment on a joint-album plan.
Seeing that The-Dream recorded his debut LP Love/Hate in just nine days, and it took Kanye a little more than half that time to record 808s & Heartbreak, Dream feels the collaborative full-length could be tackled in no time.
"It wouldn't take that long at all, once we got the concept," Dream said.
Next up on his plate, Dream is co-writing Mariah Carey's entire next album. They're penning and recording at a feverish pace, coming up with seven records in six days.
Christina Milian is just about finished with her album. She's signed to Dream's Radio Killer Records, and her next single is called "I'm a Cheat." Mary J. Blige's next album is also on deck, and The-Dream is headed out on the road with Keyshia Cole on a tour.
It seems like Fabolous and The-Dream have a great musical connection. Shortly after wrapping up his verse on The-Dream's "Rocking That Thing" remix, Fabolous was sent several other gems to rock out to. One of the gems that stuck, was, as Fab puts it, an infectious cut that won't leave your memory even if you forced it to.
"Throw It In The Bag" a cut produced by The-Dream's production partner, Tricky Stewart, hasn't been deemed Fab's first single from his forthcoming conceptual set, Loso's Way, but it's being placed in the lane as a strong contender.
Fabolous told BET.com of the track during his visit to 106 & Park, Monday afternoon (March 9), "After we did the “Rockin That Thing” remix, he said, ‘I got some joints for you’, so he sent me over some joints, I heard “Throw It In The Bag” and felt it was a dope record. Everybody that came in the studio was just bopping their heads like crazy because it was so infectious."
The Brooklyn native didn't neccessarily seek out a reaction for the record, rather, he sat back and observed people's initial responses as they were unaware as to what they were listening to. Loso explained, "I was just watching the reaction because I like to observe people’s responses to see if it connects and that was one of things that I saw; it was an instant connect."
And judging from the title, it's pretty clear what road Fabolous and The-Dream are headed down. But if you're still unsure, Fabolous' brief explanation should make everything crystal clear. "It’s talking about keeping the one you with just like you in a sense where whatever she gets you get and that translates down to when you go shopping," Fab said with a smile. "Just throw it in the bag".
But before "Throw It In The Bag" hits the streets, Fab's new interactive website, MyFabolousLife.com, is set to take precedent among users whose lifes revolve around the things they view as fabolous.
The website, which is scheduled to launch in a bout a week and a half, will give users a chance to experience all things that are fabolous under the realms of fashion, technology, sports, music and of course, Fabolous himself.
As for Fabolous' blogging responsiblities and personalized content, the Def Jam represenative has a bundle of material catered specifically for MyFabolousLife.com. Fab revealed, “I’m definitely going to do some blogs on the site. I’ve really held back my internet presence just for the involvement in this site. For people who like to go on and see blogs and the entertainment that I bring, I really saved that for my actual website."
Loso continued, "As a bonus to my site being brand new, it’ll also have footage of all kinds of stuff that I’ve been involved in. So basically we’ve just been holding it until we found something tasteful that we could put it out for because I’m not a big fan of just exploiting shit for no reason, but now we have a reason.”
Big Boi is currently gearing up for the release of his solo album Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty.
The Atlanta emcee recently revealed to The Las Vegas Sun that the album will be hitting shelves in the summer.
"It will be coming out in two months, three months at the most. Juneish, Julyish," Big Boi revealed. "I’m finished with it right now; I’ve been working on it for two years straight. I’ve got T.I. on the album, Jamie Foxx is on the record. The whole album is stupid."
Big Boi also revealed that he plans to reunite with his partner in rhyme Andre 3000 to release another Outkast album. Andre 3000 is also releasing a solo album this year.
"We’re going to try to get all three of them out (this year) … It depends on how fast Dre finishes his record,” Big Boi said.
Big Boi also revealed earlier this week via an online video that a movie based on The Dungeon Family is currently in the works and he has two more pilots in the bag.
In a new interview with Best Life, Jay-Z dropped some gems on business, personal tastes, and the secrets to his success.
On his personal tastes: "I've always wanted to stay true to myself, and I've managed to do that. People have to accept that. I collect art, and I drink wine...things that I like that I had never been exposed to. But I never said, 'I'm going to buy art to impress this crowd.' That's just ridiculous to me. I don't live my life like that, because how could you be happy with yourself?"
On business: "My brands are an extension of me. They're close to me. It's not like running GM, where there's no emotional attachment."
"The clothes are an extension of me. The music is an extension of me. All my businesses are part of the culture, so I have to stay true to whatever I'm feeling at the time, whatever direction I'm heading in. And hopefully, everyone follows."

Rick Ross, who has been embroiled in a highly-publicized rap beef with G-Unit frontman 50 Cent for the past couple of weeks, landed the cover of XXL Magazine's May issue. This marks the second time Ross has graced the cover, the first time being in July 2008 alongside Miami's DJ Khaled, Flo Rida and Trina.
In the XXL article, Ross addresses the pictures that surfaced of him at nineteen years old in a correctional officer's uniform and of his alleged criminal history.
Below are some excerpts from the article, which can be picked up at newsstands on April 7th.
On Denying Being A Correctional Officer
"Me not answering or addressing that situation has nothing to do with my career. I've accomplished enough, and I've made enough money for me to be good... Yes, it was me in those pictures. But I'ma tell you this. Me taking that job, I was doing my job. You understand what I mean?"
On His Street Credibility
"The stuff I talk about is real. The dope is real. The gun talk is official. Look up Kenneth 'Boobie' Williams. Look where he's from. That's not nothing to be proud of. I wish that on no man. But, just to let you know, that's what I witnessed. It's a reality. I cannot discuss certain people that's still in the streets, and I will not. I took a street oath, and I'ma live by that, and I'ma die by that. And it's not about a music career, 'cause that shit, I'm good. It's about me and being in the streets."
On His Feud With 50 Cent
"50 Cent made a statement [that he'll] ruin somebody life. Where I come from, it takes a AK-47 to do that. Cartoons, we laugh - funny. You put on a wif, come out the closet - funny. At the end of the day, we in the streets finna drop another No.1 album, we pressing on."
Rick Ross' third solo album, Deeper Than Rap, hits stores on April 21.

According to Fake Shore Drive, Chicago rapper Kanye West may possibly be lending his voice for a character on the Family Guy spin-off The Cleveland Show.
Informed of the possible Kanye appearance by a “reliable source”, Fake Shore Drive was told that Kanye will be playing a character named Kenny West.
Aside from appearing in State Property 2 and possibly The Cleveland Show, Kanye has rarely appeared in any movies or television shows.
Created by Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane, The Cleveland Show will revolve around the lives of Cleveland Brown and his family as they move from Rhode Island to Virginia.
