The Billboard 200 is ripe with hip-hop this week, as Rick Ross and internet phenom Asher Roth take over the top 5.
In at no. 1, the biggest boss easily slides into the top spot with Deeper Than Rap, selling 158,000 copies in its first week. It's Ross' third chart topper, following 2008's Trilla and 2006's Port of Miami.
Despite controversy over his past past, the beef with 50 Cent paid off, and Rick Ross is on top again.
Later down the line, Asher Roth holds down the no. 5 spot with his debut album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle. Thanks to his lead single "I Love College," which peaked at no. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, his debut sold 65,000 to put him in this week's top tier. Congrats to Asher.
Lady GaGa's The Fame moved up one position to no. 7 selling 40,000, Day26's Forever in a Day slides six spots to no. 8 with 37,000, and Jadakiss rounds out the top 10 with The Last Kiss, slipping to no. 10 with 30,000 copies sold, putting him at just over 200,000 copies sold to date.
Outside the top 10, Keri Hilson lands at no. 14 with In A Perfect World..., selling 23,000 copies.
That does it for the top 20 positions, but there's a couple new releases down the line.
At no. 77, Startrak's Chester French got off to a slow start, selling just over 6,000 copies of their Love The Future album.
Then, Living Legends members, The Grouch and Eligh, come in at no. 186 with Say G&E!, selling nearly 3,000 copies to open. The duo are currently on tour through May with Afro Classics, Root Beer, and Exile & DJ Day.
According to Billboard.com, overall album sales in this past chart week (ending April 26) totaled 6.17 million units, down 3% compared to the sum last week (6.36 million) and down 10% compared to the same sales week of 2008 (6.86 million).
Year to date album sales stand at 117.9 million, down 12% compared to the same total at this point last year (134.2 million).
Foxy Brown's assault case, which alleged that she had beat a woman up with her cell phone two years ago, was dismissed today by a New York judge.
The suit, which was filed last year by Arlene Raymond, a neighbor of the rapper in Crown Heights, claimed that Foxy smashed her in the face with a BlackBerry over an argument about the noise level of Foxy's car radio.
According to the New York Post, Justice Robert Miller ruled that Foxy had never been served with legal papers, the grounds on which the trial was dismissed.
"They knew this was a weak case," said Brown previously to the New York Daily News. "My family has lived on that block for almost 50 years and has never been a problem."
As reported earlier hip hop duo Clipse ex manager, Anthony "Geezy" Gonzalez (34), charged on drug and money laundering offenses has turned himself in. Mr. Gonzalez handed himself into Miami authorities and is scheduled to appear before the cities federal magistrate yesterday (Apr 29).
Along with the former manager a federal investigation revealed six other members tied to the illegal activities which turned up evidence that suggest Gonzalez, imported the narcotics from Panama, Florida, California and Arizona, laundering millions through various businesses, including Clipse's booking agency, Soul Providers Management.
The defendants reported on legal documents that they were "music producers, rappers, entrepreneurs, club owners, clothing designers and other legitimate occupations as false sources in order to to mask the $10 million income operating the massive drug ring.
Gonzalez is expected to face the 82-count indictmant when extradited to Virgina. There is no information on the status of the other six members at this time. The Clipse are not thought to be directly involved in the charges.

An associate of Virginia rap duo, the Clipse, has been charged in the U.S. District Court with leading a $10 million drug ring.
Authorities say Anthony Gonzalez ran a six year operation out of a defunct Virginia night club called, Encore Lounge.
According to the Virginia Pilot, the indictment says Gonzalez bought the club at 1889 Virginia Beach Blvd. in November 2007 from an unidentified co-conspirator for 40 pounds of marijuana and about $80,000 in drug proceeds.
The club closed earlier this year after more than 100 incidents of violence, shootings, drug dealing and disorderly conduct.
According to the 82-count indictment. Gonzalez and six others are charged in a drug conspiracy stretching from Hampton Roads across the country to South America and back. They allegedly distributed more than a ton of marijuana and more than 100 pounds of cocaine since 2003 throughout Hampton Roads.
Gonzalez is also accused of laundering proceeds through various businesses, including Soul Providers Management, which is listed as the booking agent for Clipse on Clipse's MySpace Web page.
Gonzalez had been the manager of the rappers Clipse at least through 2006, according to news reports.
The suspects held "themselves out as music producers, rappers, entrepreneurs, club owners, clothing designers and other legitimate occupations in order to conceal the true source of their income."
Police and federal agents are still looking for Gonzalez.

In a new interview with MTV, Storch reveals that he hit rock bottom. The producer is currently recovering from a cocaine addiction.
"I got involved in doing drugs,” Storch said. “I had to get myself into recovery. Being in the life that I was living — very fast-moving, option to do anything you want, go anywhere you wanna go — it definitely takes its toll on you, and you lose your concept of reality. I had to get it under control. I had to take it back to the beginning and back to the Hit Factory, where I made a lot of my hits."
As for the financial situation? Storch says he lost $30 million on the road to the bottom.
Currently in a recovery house, Storch adds that the battle against addiction isn’t over, and the process of making music helps keep his spirits up.
“I have to constantly battle it,” he says of his addiction. “I feel so much better and have more clarity, especially in the studio. It's cool. It's been a really productive period. ... With the help of my publisher TVT, I've had the chance to woodshed and come up with a whole new vibe. I'm very happy right now."
Snoop Dogg is currently facing a $22 million lawsuit by a man who says the rapper and his entourage caused him severe injuries after a physical altercation in 2005.
According to Billboard, Richard Monroe, Jr., says he suffered serious injuries after jumping onstage during a Seattle concert.
Monroe Jr. accuses Snoop of hitting him with a brass-knuckle microphone after he jumped onstage and put his hand on the performer's shoulder.
Monroe says he woke up naked, robbed, and in a pool of blood after the beatdown by other performers and the rapper's security detail.
According to the Associated Press, a videotape of the incident that occurred at the White River Amphitheater near Seattle was also shown to jurors Friday.
Broadus' attorneys said the video doesn't show the blow to the back of the head that Monroe claims the rapper delivered, nor evidence that the rapper should be forced to pay any damages.
"Mr. Broadus thought he was being attacked," said attorney Hayes Michel.
He told jurors the rapper's security reacted swiftly because Monroe was struggling, a claim Monroe denied.
"I was getting punched, kicked, kicked, punched," Monroe told jurors. "It was brutal. I was really in shock. I couldn't believe it."
Monroe's lawyer, Brian E. Watkins, said his client was essentially "left for dead."
Monroe says he jumped on stage because he thought Snoop waved him over while performing "Gin And Juice."
"I was having fun," he told jurors. "I was excited. Snoop was in the house."
Pharrell Williams is apparently through with getting ink. In fact, he doesn't want tattoos at all, and is in the process of getting them all lasered off.
Williams recently underweat laser surgery to burn all the tattoos off his arms, and posted the photos on his blog.
As you can see in this photo, Pharrell has both of his arms bandaged up, as they heal.
"Laser treatment b**ches! Extra crispy," the rapper wrote on his blog of the procedure. "See, no skin graft here, just pure laser pain. This is our own version of Mythbusters! Laser is the new primer."
Pharrell previously talked about going through the surgery, in which he explained that he was going to attempt to cultivate new skin cells and graft the new tissue over his tattoos.
"It's going to be pricey, but f*** it, it's worth it. I got fire on my arms! I'm a grown man," he said in early 2008. "There's an institute called the Wake Forest Institute in North Carolina for Regenerative Skin Treatment. It's basically like getting a skin graft, but you're not taking skin from your ass or your legs. These guys actually grow the skin for you."
