Akon and Bone Thugs have reportedly been sued by a publishing company for sampling one of their artists without permission.
According to Contact Music, Texas based Songster claims Akon and Bone Thugs sampled Rasa's "When The Day Will Come" and used it on their hit single "I Tried" which is featured on the album Strength & Loyalty.
Songster is seeking to halt the sale of Strength & Loyalty in physical and digital stores and is also demanding all the profits earned from the track's sales.
The murder case of former No Limit rapper C-Murder took another unexpected turn this week as a jailed friend of the rapper has come forward claiming that he was the one who killed the teenager that C- Murder is accused of shooting.
C- Murder, born Corey Miller, is accused of shooting and killing 16-year-old Steve Thomas at a defunct New Orleans nightclub in 2002. His retrial on the murder charge begins next month and he faces life in prison if convicted.
According to The Times Picayune, C- Murder's lawyer Ron Rakosky claims that the rapper's friend Juan Flowers has stated under oath that he is the one who shot and killed Thomas.
Flowers is currently serving a life sentence in Georgia for a 2007 murder. Rakosky wants Flowers transported to New Orleans to testify in C- Murder's upcoming trial.
Prosecutors, however, claim that Flowers denied being involved in the killing when questioned by authorities in 2003.
C- Murder is currently behind bars after pleading no contest to two counts of attempted second degree murder in May.
The rapper was accused of trying to shoot the owner of a nightclub and a bouncer in August 2001.
He was slapped with a 10 year sentence but he will be given credit for time already served including a period of home incarceration.

Pharrell Williams is reportedly suing the developer of his Miami condo over water leaks that can't seem to be plugged.
According to The Miami Herald, Pharrell filed the lawsuit against Ugo Colombo. Colombo sold the condo to Pharrell for $14 million in 2007.
Pharrell's downstairs neighbour Hector Lopez is also part of the lawsuit. It is unknown how much Pharrell is seeking in damages.
Lopez originally sued both Colombo and the condo association, but the association bought out his $525,000 case against it.

Survivor producer Adam Briles has teamed up with the Memphis rap group to help pitch the show to major networks.
According to SF, the show is titled Cooking Ain't Easy and it will feature the rap duo hosting and cooking for celebrities, fans and personal friends.
“Basically, the show is about how cooking ain’t easy - and the pressure of our guests turns the heat up,” said Juicy J. “We’re not just cooking soul food like people might expect - we’re cooking Indian food, Italian, Asian, Middle-Eastern food - all different kinds of foods that people wouldn’t think we could cook. It’s a comedy, it’s funny and we love bringing people together for it.”

With his acting resume continuing to grow, 50 Cent has decided to remove some of his tattoos.
The G-Unit boss revealed that his numerous tattoos have proven to be a drag when shooting flicks.
“I took some of the tattoos off because on the movie set, if we got a six o’clock call time, I have to be there two o’clock the night before,” 50 Cent explained. “I gotta go through four hours of make up before we go ahead and play the role".
50 has numerous movies lined up including the crime drama Caught in the Crossfire and a remake of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde which will co-star Forest Whitaker.
50 is also gearing up to release his fourth solo album Before I Self Destruct this year.

Rakim is a legend in hip-hop, but he's been absent from the scene for quite some time. That's all gonna change this fall, when the release of a new, long awaited solo album hits stores called The Seventh Seal, reports Billboard.com.
The seal represents the seals from the Bible says the rapper -- Revelations and the coming of the apocalypse. After the devastation, God is supposed to re-build. Rakim is applying that to modern day hip-hop, which he plans to rebuild.
"After the Apocalypse, God rises from the ashes to re-create the Kingdom, taking only the greatest elements from the past with them," the rapper explained in a recent interview with Billboard. "When you look at hip-hop, I want to do that: to spit fire and take our best from the ashes to build our kingdom; to recognize all the regional styles, conscious lyrics, the tracks, underground, mainstream, the way we treat each other. Lose the garbage and rebuild our scene. I've always tried to insert consciousness and spirituality in my records, interpreting the writings of all cultures and religions and how they apply to life in modern times."
According to the rapper, everything on the upcoming, new solo album is brand new material, meaning nothing recorded with Dr. Dre made it for those wondering. However, who he worked with for the project is currently unknown. Rakim says he'll keep that under-wraps until the project actually drops.
"Special cats in the right places but not everywhere," he said.
The 41-year-old rapper is best known as one half of the legendary duo Eric B. & Rakim, releasing classic albums such as 1987's Paid In Full and 1988's Follow The Leader to name a few.
While the 80s and early 90s was his heyday, Rakim was looked poised to return to the forefront when he signed with Dr. Dre's Aftermath label in 2000. But, when years passed and a release date for an album tentatively titled Oh, My God never came, he opted to leave, officially parting ways in 2003 and his work with Dre being shelved indefinitely.
After leaving, Rakim left fans waiting yet again for new music, only releasing a live set in 2008 called The Archive: Live, Lost & Found, which included four previously unreleased songs.
Now, a new album is finally set for release, via the rapper's own Ra Records. Is first single, "Holy Are You," is expected to drop later this month.
The album will follow in the fall.
Jay-Z has confirmed his hopes to release a series of books, with one book describing the meaning behind some of his most disputed songs on track to hit shelves first.
During an interview on Atlanta radio station V-103, Jay told radio personality Ryan Cameron all about his literary plans.
“Well it’s not done, the other two books, it hasn’t kicked in yet, I haven’t signed that deal,” he said about the rumored three book contract. “But I’ve done a deal to do a book and the name of it is called Decoded. It’s called Decoded because I’m going to decode all the lyrics from my records. I’m gonna pick the select ones, you know all the double entendres and things that people may have missed or may have gotten and want confirmation on it. That’s what the book is about.”
Last week The New York Observer reported that Jay was close to inking a deal with the Spiegel & Grau imprint of Random House for three books: one memoir, one business book and the other one about the meanings behind his lyrics that he revealed to Cameron.
This will be the first book written by Hov, who came close to releasing a memoir back in ’03 with MTV. Titled The Black Book, Jay famously backed out at the last minute due to privacy issues.
As of press time there is no release date for Decoded
The bitter divorce case between Nas and Kelis continues ...
According to TMZ, Nas is claiming that he's paid his soon-to-be-ex more than she's said in court filings, and says he makes a lot more than she thinks.
Kelis seems to think the rapper made nearly $11 million for his album deal with Def Jam, but in legal papers, Nas says that's not true ... not even close.
"I did not receive even half that amount," the papers read. He claims to making around $4 million, and says his income has been on a steady decline, pulling in just $147,165 a month.
With expenses of around $71,000 a month -- including $10,000 a month in clothing/hair/toiletries/personal effects -- Nas says he's not making much.
Kelis has claimed that her hubby hasn't supported her whatsoever since they split. She wants around $20,000 a month in child support -- covering costs such as a baby nurse, a nanny, and other staff, as well as strollers, cribs and other baby supplies for homes both in Los Angeles and New York.
Nas, who says he wants to be "fully involved" in the parenting of their child, claims he's agreed to pay $350 for a stroller, $450 for a baby sling and $1,598 for two cribs.
He thinks $5,000 a month is a more reasonable request, and within his budget.
The couple was married in July 2003, and Kelis filed for divorce in May. Their first child together is due this month.

Since being arrested last month on attempted murder charges, fans have yet to hear from Tru Life. XXL recently reached out to his attorney to find out how the former Roc La Familia rapper is holding up and to gain more insight into the case.
As previously reported Tru, born Roberto Guzman Rosado, was arrested on second degree murder and gang related charges on June 22, for allegedly fatally stabbing a man and leaving another man in critical condition. Tru’s brother Marcus Rosado, was also picked up for the supposed incident that authorities believe occurred on June 15 in a Midtown Manhattan lobby, as part of an ongoing dispute between both parties.
“At this point [Tru Life’s] still incarcerated and he’s awaiting arraignment in Supreme Court,” Tru’s lawyer, Alan Abramson, told XXL, after declining to answer how his client’s spirits are behind bars.
Although Tru has already entered a not guilty plea, Abramson explained that the rapper has not officially been charged for the crime. “This is just the initial court appearance so we can find out exactly what he’s being charged with.”
Once charged, Abramson is completely confident that his client will be cleared of any wrongdoing. “He is an extraordinarily talented young artist and we believe that he will be vindicated of any charge they throw against him.”
According to Abramson, Tru is scheduled to appear in Manhattan Supreme Court on July 27.
Lil Wayne is once again being sued by a promoter for being a no-show.
Weezy is facing fresh embarrassment in a lawsuit over a missed gig in the Bahamas - promoters of the show allege he was too drunk to take the stage.
The Lollipop hitmaker was hired by Red City Entertainment and given a $210,000 advance to perform for 5,500 fans in Nassau last September (08).
When he didn't show for the concert, police were called in and allegedly found the star passed out in his hotel room.
"This was targeted as a showcase for Lil' Wayne," said Glenn Gitomer, a lawyer for the New Jersey promotions company.
"Then police found him intoxicated in his hotel room...It was a great expense just to accommodate him."
