It appears the State of Arizona has a beef against rappers. In the same week where they sentenced DMX to six months in jail, they issue a bench warrant for Lil wayne.
Weezy's warrant was issued because the rapper failed to appear in court on drug and weapons charges from an arrest in January 2008. Wayne's tour bus was stopped and searched at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint. During the search, DEA agents confiscated 105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine and 41 grams of ecstasy pills, said reports. Wayne was charged with three felonies.
Obviously, Weezy couldn't appear since he's currently serving a one year prison sentence for a separate gun charge in New York.
Lil Wayne's attorney, James Tilson, told reporters that his client couldn't appear because of his current incarceration and filed multiple motions to have his Arizona gun trial moved to a later date.
However, Yuma County prosecutor Deann Sandry said it was the state's position that Lil Wayne is now a convicted felon and that a bench warrant should be issued and his bond be increased to $150,000.
Tilson told reporters "It does not appear that a trial will be occurring anytime within the next eight to 12 months."
