Virginia’s Republican Governor, Bob McDonnell has declared that April is Confederate history month, celebrating the many Southern whites who fought to preserve slavery and leave the union.
After the jump read his statement regarding the declaration
This defining chapter in Virginia’s history should not be forgotten, but instead should be studied, understood and remembered by all Virginians, both in the context of the time in which it took place, but also in the context of the time in which we live, and this study and remembrance takes on particular importance as the Commonwealth prepares to welcome the nation and the world to visit Virginia for the Sesquicentennial Anniversary of the Civil War, a four-year period in which the exploration of our history can benefit all.
UPDATE: In my reseach i found that several other states already celebrate "Confederate History Month"
Alabama
Mississippi
Texas (since 1999)
Louisiana
Florida (since 2007)
Georgia (since 2009)
Since I live in Va. I figured I had to comment on this. I know that Va. was at one point the capital of the confederacy, but to have such an hone is like celebrating the birthday of Adolph hitler. This is such an abomination, there should be a national uproar, there should be rioting in the streets, there should be protest, but yet nothing. Where is Jesse, Al, and the rest of the lot? They are all off arguing over violating our first amendment right over sagging pants. Its a sad thing that this story hasn't even gotten any coverage in the mainstream media. I can tell you one thing, this definitely shows me that my time in Va is coming to an end.
